SAN ANTONIO \u2014 Bexar County authorities say a man who tried to put his 3-month-old son in a dumpster after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase has been arrested.<\/p>\n
Around 3:30 p.m. Friday, deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office responded to a gas station after receiving a report from a worried mother regarding her husband, identified as 40-year-old Kye Bruce, and their young baby.<\/p>\n
BCSO said the family had stopped at the San Antonio gas station to adjust the child’s car seat. But when the mother exited the vehicle, Bruce allegedly drove away with the baby in his lap, leaving the car seat behind.<\/p>\n
The mother asked a bystander for help and called 911, providing a description of the vehicle and Bruce.<\/p>\n
When a deputy located the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Bruce allegedly accelerated and began a high speed chase that authorities ended shortly after due to safety concerns.<\/p>\n
Bruce was later found and arrested by the Hondo Police Department after witnesses reported seeing him trying to put his baby in a dumpster outside a business along U.S. Highway 90 East.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Hondo Police Chief Justin Soza said those witnesses were employees at Peerless Equipment and bravely stepped in to protect the infant.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe employees from Peerless chased Bruce as well as physically restrained him,” Soza said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The child was taken to a local hospital and was checked on by investigators who say CPS will follow up on the case.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir quick thinking and courage undoubtedly saved a life,” Soza said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
