And only drivers with a \u201ctrack record of good feedback\u201d can participate in the pilot.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how the program works: When a rider requests an Uber through the app, the driver assigned to the person will see that a cash trip request and have the peace of mind that the passenger\u2019s identity has been verified.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The cash payment option has to be a two-way street: Even if passengers are willing to pay with cash, drivers can opt out. And it is not available from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>If a passenger doesn\u2019t have enough cash,\u00a0he or she\u00a0must pay the rest on the app. And if a driver doesn\u2019t have enough change,\u00a0the passenger will get UberCash to use on their next ride.<\/p>\n<p>Once riders choose the cash option, they won\u2019t be able to change their destination or add stops.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Uber said the pilot program aims to test out the cash option \u201cto make rides more accessible while giving drivers even more ways to earn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We believe transportation should open doors for everyone. Yet the truth is, not everyone has access to a bank account or credit card\u2014and some riders simply prefer paying with cash,\u201d the rideshare company said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Not everyone is a fan of the pilot program as an Uber driver named Jose told NBC Los Angeles that the program doesn\u2019t seem realistic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to take me more time in places where I need to stop,\u201d the driver said. \u201cLet&#8217;s say there\u2019s a lot of traffic, and there are places where I\u2019m not supposed to stop.
