A knife-wielding woman arrested after a SWAT team was called in response to a family disturbance in the Westlake district was identified Friday.<\/p>\n
Officers responded at approximately 8:20 a.m. Thursday to the 300 block of South Lafayette Park Place, between Hoover and Alvarado streets, following a call about an assault with a deadly weapon suspect, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.<\/p>\n
The suspect, identified Friday as Julian Douglas, was observed by officers standing in the apartment courtyard, armed with a butcher knife and with blood on her hands, police said.<\/p>\n
The officers gave several commands for Douglas to drop the weapon, but she refused and entered a nearby residence and barricaded herself in a closet with the knife, police said.<\/p>\n
After giving additional orders for Douglas to surrender and drop the weapon, with her not complying, LAPD Metropolitan Division Special Weapons and Tactics personnel were requested to the location.<\/p>\n
Several hours into the standoff, chemical projectiles were deployed. Douglas eventually emerged from her residence still armed with the knife, prompting officers to shock her with a Taser and fire two less-lethal rounds at her, police said.<\/p>\n
Douglas was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment and later taken into custody.<\/p>\n
