{"id":204542,"date":"2025-09-06T08:42:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-06T08:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/204542\/"},"modified":"2025-09-06T08:42:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-06T08:42:10","slug":"divers-searching-for-clues-in-missing-persons-cases-discover-over-90-cars-in-river","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/204542\/","title":{"rendered":"Divers searching for clues in missing persons cases discover over 90 cars in river"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">CHICAGO (WBBM) \u2013 A diving team that travels the country looking for submerged cars involved in cold cases traversed the Chicago River this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Chaos Divers team searched from Diversey on the north branch of the Chicago River to Cicero via the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Lindsay Bussick is the team\u2019s manager. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe have 10 missing persons cases in Chicago,\u201d Bussick said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">As they were trying to solve cold cases, they came across dozens of other cars. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cOnce we kind of reached that 50, 60 number point, then it was kind of like, \u2018OK, this was even a little more than we had expected to find,\u2019\u201d Bussick recalled.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Bussick says they found over 90 cars in the depths of the Chicago river over the last few days. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"More than 90 cars were found in the Chicago River system this week.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/2WBQMJWNSZDCTG5UNM7BNPTSFE.jpg\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" \/>More than 90 cars were found in the Chicago River system this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">To find the cars, the team has sonars set up in the command center so they\u2019re able to find the vehicles before they dive in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThere\u2019s so much that we can tell you from this,\u201d Bussick said about the sonar equipment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">If they locate a car, they could retrieve it themselves. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">But on Wednesday afternoon, they called Chicago police to take out a Nissan sedan Bussick says was damaging boats. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">It was actually a stolen car from 2023. However, there are times they do solve decades-old cases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThankfully, we have had the opportunity to bring 20 people home over the last four years,\u201d Bussick said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Two of those recoveries were in the Chicago area. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Bussick\u2019s team found a car in the Fox River in Elgin this spring. Inside were skeletal remains of Karen Schepers, who went missing in 1983. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Chicago police and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources did not immediately detail what\u2019s next for the 90-plus cars in the water.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt is the most heartbreaking job that you never want to give up,\u201d Bussick said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Chaos Divers was in Chicago for several days before moving on to their next stop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 WBBM via CNN Newsource.
