SAN DIEGO (KGTV) \u2014 Petco Park was packed Friday night as the Savannah Bananas brought their one-of-a-kind brand of baseball to San Diego for the very first time. Fans say the stop was long overdue \u2014 and worth the wait.<\/p>\n
A sea of yellow and excitement filled the ballpark as thousands of Banana Ball fans poured in to see what the hype was all about.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been wanting to see the Bananas forever. We\u2019re so excited,\u201d one fan said.<\/p>\n
Another added, \u201cMy friend went to the game in Anaheim a couple of months ago and I was so jealous. I\u2019m excited they finally came to Petco.\u201d<\/p>\n
For many, it was a moment years in the making. \u201cI knew it would happen. I\u2019ve been a fan for about 10 years,\u201d said Kelly, a longtime supporter of the Bananas.<\/p>\n
The team \u2014 famous on social media for its viral dances, skits, and antics \u2014 delivered anything but traditional baseball. Fans cheered on the choreographed routines, wild rule twists, and even mid-game cheerleading.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very non-traditional, but I love it. I love every aspect of it,\u201d Ceci, a brand new fan, told me.<\/p>\n
Andrew, another local fan of the Bananas and Padres, said, \u201cI just watched six sweaty dudes cheerlead. It was the craziest thing ever. You can\u2019t get this kind of entertainment anywhere else.\u201d<\/p>\n
From grabbing banana-themed merch to joining in chants of \u201cGo Bananas,\u201d the energy inside the stadium was electric.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the best random, crazy, exciting fun stuff,\u201d another fan named Zoe said.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor a baseball game, it feels just right.\u201d<\/p>\n
