AP<\/p>\n<p>The Longhorns went into halftime with a 28-7 lead. <\/p>\n<p>It follows <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/01\/sports\/lessons-arch-manning-is-taking-from-texas-season-opening-disappointment\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">his disastrous showing<\/a> in Texas\u2019 14-7, season-opening loss to Ohio State on the road last week. <\/p>\n<p>Manning largely looked overmatched, completing just 17 of 30 passes for 170 yards with a touchdown and an interception.<\/p>\n<p>Arch Manning runs with the ball during the Texas-San Jose State game on Sept. 6, 2025. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>He is Eli and Peyton Manning\u2019s nephew and the grandson of Archie \u2014 all of whom were legendary NFL quarterbacks.<\/p>\n<p>The younger Manning was also the No. 1-ranked recruit in the 2023 class, only adding to the immense pressure on his shoulders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hold myself to a high standard,\u201d Manning said this past week about his Week 1 performance. \u201cI\u2019ve got to play better, got to lead more, got to get our guys to play well around me and ultimately I wasn\u2019t good enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Head coach Steve Sarkisian said that Manning took a lesson away from that game. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were a couple times where we had some crossing routes where I didn\u2019t feel like he brought his feet to where he wanted to throw the ball, which in turn forced kind of a little bit more of a sidearm delivery, which isn\u2019t his style of throwing,\u201d Sarkisian said. \u201cPart of that is just finding that comfort level of trust with receivers in real games \u2014 not in practice, not against the scout team, but in a real game \u2014 against a good defense because the windows get small against good defenses like that. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo definitely lesson learned on that stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"It\u2019s against much inferior competition, but Arch Manning is bouncing back.
