Coming from an open-wheel background, where contact can end a race instantly, Muniz said the level of aggression in NASCAR caught him off guard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though I\u2019ve been racing for years, the type I used to do was more open-wheel racing, IndyCar racing-type stuff, where you can\u2019t touch each other,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/STaranto92\/status\/1964115217606201550\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Muniz said<\/a>. \u201cBut you can\u2019t hit each other, cause someone\u2019s gonna become an airplane and die, you know what I mean?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Muniz pointed to a moment at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) that brought the difference into sharp focus. Unsure of what was and wasn\u2019t allowed, he asked the Truck Series director if there were any rules against blocking, since nothing was mentioned in the pre-race video.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe director basically told me, \u2018There\u2019s no rules against blocking in NASCAR,\u2019\u201d Muniz recalled on the podcast. \u201cI was like, \u2018So you can just block, you can punt them off the track?\u2019 He\u2019s like, \u2018Yeah.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Muniz said that realization reshaped how he approached stock car racing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNASCAR is a bold contact sport, and they will push you out of the way; they will, they don\u2019t care,\u201d he said. \u201cThey don\u2019t care if they wreck you, they don\u2019t care if you get hurt, they don\u2019t want to hurt you, but like they\u2019re doing whatever they have to do to win, and there\u2019s no rules saying they can\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Muniz, it was a turning point. The etiquette he had grown used to in open-wheel racing, where blocking and bumping are often penalized, simply doesn\u2019t exist in NASCAR.
