{"id":206311,"date":"2025-09-07T00:32:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-07T00:32:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/206311\/"},"modified":"2025-09-07T00:32:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-07T00:32:14","slug":"prof-sanushka-naidoo-honoured-for-pioneering-forestry-science-at-2025-she-is-forestry-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/206311\/","title":{"rendered":"Prof Sanushka Naidoo honoured for pioneering forestry science at 2025 \u2018She is Forestry Awards\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/544&#038;operation=CROP&#038;offset=0x74&#038;resize=544x306.jpg\" class=\"type:primaryImage\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Professor Sanushka Naidoo, programme leader of the Forest Molecular Genetics and Eucalyptus and Pine Pathogen Interactions (FMG-EPPI) group in the Department of Biochemistry, Genetics and Microbiology (BGM) at the Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute (FABI), has been honoured with the prestigious \u201cResounding Contribution to Forestry Science\u201d award at the 2025 She Is Forestry SA Awards\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Administered annually by She Is Forestry SA (SIFSA), a non-profit established by the Forest Sector Charter Council and Forestry South Africa, and supported by the <a title=\"The deep roots of misconception about forestry, paper and print\" href=\"https:\/\/iol.co.za\/saturday-star\/news\/2025-08-28-the-deep-roots-of-misconception-about-forestry-paper-and-print\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">forestry sector and its value chains. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>These awards celebrate women who are making a profound and meaningful impact in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Naidoo described herself as humbled by the nomination and genuinely surprised to have won, particularly as she stood among a group of equally inspiring female nominees.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She expressed gratitude to her FMG-EPPI research team and reflected on the rich, collaborative environment fostered within BGM and FABI.<\/p>\n<p>She also highlighted the double celebration of a PhD student, Ms Anneri Lotter, who received the Postgraduate Award for her groundbreaking work in Eucalyptus pangenomics.<\/p>\n<p>She emphasises that her ongoing research aims to improve tree resilience to pests, pathogens, and climate-related stresses at the genetic and molecular levels \u2013 work she believes is becoming increasingly urgent as South Africa grapples with more extreme weather events.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on her career milestone, she noted that winning this award is one of the highlights of her professional journey.
