Police were investigating a hit-and-run that left a man in a wheelchair injured on Sept. 5 in Phoenix, according to a police spokesperson.<\/p>\n
About 11 p.m., officers were called to the area of 35th and Northern avenues after a man in the roadway was struck by a car, Sgt. Jennifer Zak of the Phoenix Police Department said.<\/p>\n
Police found the man, who had been in a wheelchair at the time of the crash, with serious but survivable injuries, according to Zak.<\/p>\n
The driver of the vehicle left before authorities arrived, according to Zak.<\/p>\n
It was not immediately clear whether the man in the wheelchair was in a crosswalk or how the hit-and-run driver struck him. Zak said it was unknown whether impairment played a role.<\/p>\n
An investigation into the crash remained ongoing.<\/p>\n
