A Dallas venue hosted an event to help end the stigma.<\/p>\n<p>DALLAS, Texas \u2014 If music heals the soul, Saturday night in Bishop Arts may have been the perfect medicine.<\/p>\n<p>At The Kessler, the alternative hip-hop band <a href=\"https:\/\/cureforparanoia.com\/pages\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Cure for Paranoia<\/a> took the stage \u2014 not just to perform but to shine a light on mental health and suicide prevention.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s me giving other people words that they can sing, whenever they\u2019re feeling not seen, or not heard,\u201d said Cameron McCloud, the group&#8217;s lead singer.<\/p>\n<p>The concert marked the first-ever \u201cLouder Than Stigma\u201d awareness event, hosted by the mental health advocacy group Amplified Minds.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>September is <a href=\"https:\/\/988lifeline.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">National Suicide Prevention Month<\/a>. According to the CDC, nearly 49,316 people died by suicide in 2023. Here in Texas, more than 4,000 lives were lost in 2022 alone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA month isn\u2019t enough to recognize all the people that we\u2019ve lost,\u201d McCloud said.<\/p>\n<p>Jennifer Sopp, who attended Saturday\u2019s event, knows that struggle firsthand. She has lived through her own battles with mental health and thoughts of suicide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel much more empowered,&#8221; she shared. &#8220;I\u2019m out and about now, and I have my friends who are playing here tonight.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Amplified Minds President Lauren O\u2019Connor stated that the organization has assisted nearly 4,000 people over the past decade. She hopes events like this remind people they aren\u2019t alone. O\u2019Connor said Depression, addiction, and mental illness can affect anyone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to be able to help as many people to know that you\u2019re not alone,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The organization offers free therapy with licensed professionals, support groups, substance support groups, and art and music therapy.<\/p>\n<p>If you or someone you know is struggling, you can dial or text 988 in the U.S. to connect with the Suicide &amp; Crisis Lifeline.
