JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 When a loved one faces a health emergency, families are often left scrambling, forced to make major decisions with little time and even less guidance.<\/p>\n

But an upcoming event in Jacksonville aims to change that.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a scenario many families know well: an aging parent suffers a setback, and suddenly you\u2019re navigating rehab options, long-term care, insurance, and legal planning.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlan Well, Live Well: Navigating the Costs and Care of Aging\u201d<\/b><\/a> is designed to help families prepare for a crisis before it hits. The event takes place Tuesday, Sept. 16.<\/p>\n

Licensed health and life insurance broker Andy Stansfield said the idea came from a group of local professionals who saw a need in the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cA number of professionals here in Jacksonville just identified a need for people who want to learn what happens when a senior or a senior family member gets into a health crisis of some kind,\u201d Stansfield said. \u201cHow do they rehab, and what choices do they face from there?\u201d<\/p>\n

Organizers of the event share more about its purpose.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is tailored for seniors and their support systems\u2014whether it be their church family, biological family, friends, neighbors\u2014whoever the seniors rely on when they need assistance,\u201d said Laura McDonald, transitional care manager at Dolphin Pointe Health Center.<\/p>\n

Support can come in many forms, from understanding care options to navigating financial planning.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have various types of care available,\u201d McDonald said. \u201cAcute rehab, post-acute rehab, assisted living, independent living, long-term care. Our panel of experts will provide information to help people be prepared before the event happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

The event promises tools for peace of mind and resources for the people you love most.<\/p>\n
