Well done Chicago\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But that isn\u2019t the case, and the video in the post shows city salt trucks blocking off a section of Grant Park hosting the Taste of Chicago. City trucks have for years been used to enable barriers around major events including the taste and Lollapalooza. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDepartment of Streets and Sanitation deployed salt trucks to support public safety efforts related to a planned protest and the Taste of Chicago,\u201d a spokesperson for the Department of Streets and Sanitation said. \u201cThis is a routine practice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"573\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Screenshot-2025-09-07-at-2.17.20-PM-1024x573.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-920314\"  \/>A social media post incorrectly claimed salt trucks were being used to block ICE. Credit: Screenshot via Instagram<\/p>\n<p>The false viral post comes as President Donald Trump has announced plans to send federal agents into Chicago to crack down on illegal immigration and address crime.<\/p>\n<p>The post appeared to have been taken down shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Federal agents \u2014 who are staying\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2025\/09\/04\/chicago-navy-base-great-lakes-pritzker-trump-ice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">at the Great Lakes Naval Base in North Chicago<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 are expected to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blockclubchicago.org\/2025\/09\/03\/trumps-immigration-crackdown-in-chicago-expected-to-last-more-than-a-month\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">focus on making immigration arrests and conducting raids<\/a>\u00a0in and around Chicago\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blockclubchicago.org\/2025\/09\/03\/trumps-immigration-crackdown-in-chicago-expected-to-last-more-than-a-month\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">for more than a month<\/a>. Trump has also said he is considering sending the National Guard to the city, though it is unclear when that might happen.<\/p>\n<p>In warning residents of the impending federal activity, city officials including police Supt.
