All three rotate through the habitats in the zoo’s Asian Forest Sanctuary, allowing guests to observe their distinct personalities.

With fewer than 400 Sumatran tigers remaining in the wild, Mawar’s presence at the zoo is part of a broader commitment to conservation. While she doesn’t directly impact wild populations, she inspires public awareness and support, contributing valuable genetic diversity to the North American Sumatran tiger population.

Point Defiance Zoo is a leader in Sumatran tiger conservation, participating in AZA’s Species Survival Plan and partnering with international organizations to support field efforts in Sumatra.

“Animals like Mawar help people connect emotionally with species they may never see in the wild,” Welsh said. “That connection is what inspires action.”

TACOMA, Wash. — Mawar, a 6-year-old female Sumatran tiger, is set to make her public debut at Point…

[27
114961,4788,6450,26355,114958,114960,159,114959,114957,67,132,68,837
0":"post-209347","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-wildlife","8":"tag-asian-forest-sanctuary","9":"tag-conservation","10":"tag-genetic-diversity","11":"tag-international-collaboration","12":"tag-point-defiance-zoo","13":"tag-public-awareness","14":"tag-science","15":"tag-species-survival-plan","16":"tag-sumatran-tiger","17":"tag-united-states","18":"tag-unitedstates","19":"tag-us","20":"tag-wildlife
["GET
