{"id":209436,"date":"2025-09-08T05:35:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-08T05:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/209436\/"},"modified":"2025-09-08T05:35:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T05:35:14","slug":"yankees-still-not-afraid-of-sharing-when-they-pick-up-opponents-signs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/209436\/","title":{"rendered":"Yankees still not afraid of sharing when they pick up opponents&#8217; signs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During Ben Rice\u2019s at-bat in the first inning of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/07\/sports\/yankees-pull-out-series-win-over-blue-jays-to-creep-closer-in-al-east\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sunday\u2019s 4-3 win over Toronto<\/a>, Aaron Judge was at second base, clearly waving his arms, as was Cody Bellinger at first.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t the first time the Yankees didn\u2019t hide that they\u2019d picked up on an opposing team\u2019s signs \u2014 and this time, it worked exceptionally well, as Rice hit a three-run homer off Max Scherzer.<\/p>\n<p>After the game, Toronto manager John Schneider told reporters what other teams know well: \u201cThey were relaying pitches, they\u2019re good at it. Major League Baseball knows the Yankees are good when they have something. Maybe I\u2019m the only one that\u2019s going to say it publicly. Bill Kostroun\/New York Post<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s got a point, because the Yankees don\u2019t intend to stop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sure it\u2019s probably frustrating as a pitcher,\u201d Bellinger said. \u201cI don\u2019t know what they think about it. For us, we have an idea of it pregame. You kind of go out, look for it in the game and if you see it, you see it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And unlike some other teams, the Yankees aren\u2019t shy about letting everyone know when they\u2019ve seen it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guess we\u2019re good at it,\u2019\u2019 Bellinger said. \u201cIt feels like a lot of people do it right now. \u2026 We\u2019re just so obvious with it [and] with our motion. That\u2019s probably what it is. A lot of teams are discreet. AP<\/p>\n<p>Even Scherzer, who gave up the blast to Rice, said the Yankees\u2019 actions are \u201cpart of the game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Austin Wells said afterward: \u201cEvery team we play tries to relay signs, whether it\u2019s [about] location or pitch.
