{"id":209452,"date":"2025-09-08T05:43:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-08T05:43:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/209452\/"},"modified":"2025-09-08T05:43:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T05:43:10","slug":"liverpool-will-not-sign-marc-guehi-in-january-liverpool-fc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/209452\/","title":{"rendered":"Liverpool &#8216;will not&#8217; sign Marc Guehi in January &#8211; Liverpool FC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Liverpool won\u2019t pursue a transfer for Marc Guehi in January but will wait until next summer, prominent Merseyside journalists have reported. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following Liverpool\u2019s collapsed attempt to sign Guehi from <a data-ail=\"326859\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/crystal-palace\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Crystal Palace<\/a>, some fans expected the Reds to go back in for him in January. <\/p>\n<p>However, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/article\/6c350035-5fbe-4c79-b818-43f0ffd9e647\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Times<\/a>\u2018 Paul Joyce wrote: \u201cLiverpool will not revisit their interest in Marc Guehi in January and would only now sign the <a data-ail=\"326859\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/crystal-palace\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Crystal Palace<\/a> centre-back on a free transfer next summer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While interest from other further parties could theoretically get in the way \u2013 <a data-ail=\"326859\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/man-city\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Man City<\/a>, Juventus and <a data-ail=\"326859\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/barcelona\/\" title=\"Barcelona\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Barcelona<\/a> have all been mentioned \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/football\/2025\/09\/07\/liverpool-marc-guehi-plan-what-it-means-for-konate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Telegraph<\/a>\u2018s Chris Bascombe reported that Liverpool \u201csee the referencing of other clubs as a bluff to bring them back to the table on January 1.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With the 25-year-old\u2019s contract expiring at the end of the season, it makes sense that Liverpool would wait to bring him in, rather than spend a considerable sum in the January transfer window. <\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/2025-08-10-349-Community_Shield_HM-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"LONDON, ENGLAND - Sunday, August 10, 2025: Crystal Palace's manager Oliver Glasner (L) and captain Marc Gu\u00e9hi line-up before the FA Community Shield match between Crystal Palace FC and Liverpool FC at Wembley Stadium. Guehi in the squad now, given <a data-ail=\"326859\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/joe-gomez\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Joe Gomez<\/a>\u2018s poor injury record and <a data-ail=\"326859\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/giovanni-leoni\/\" title=\"Giovanni Leoni \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Giovanni Leoni<\/a>\u2018s inexperience leave the Reds with just two regular centre-halves.<\/p>\n<p>Bascombe added: \u201cGuehi would have been a replacement for Gomez rather than <a data-ail=\"326859\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/ibrahima-konate\/\" title=\"Ibrahima Konate\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ibrahima Konate<\/a>, although the French defender finds himself in an identical position to the Palace skipper, now in the final year of his deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Liverpool\u2019s bid for Guehi of \u00a335 million plus a 10 percent sell-on clause had been accepted by <a data-ail=\"326859\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/crystal-palace\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Crystal Palace<\/a> on deadline day, but the Eagles went back on their agreement upon being unable to secure a replacement for Guehi in the market.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman Steve Parish decided to pull the plug, with manager Oliver Glasner <a data-mil=\"326859\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/2025\/09\/crystal-palace-manager-threatened-to-walk-if-marc-guehi-joined-liverpool\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">reportedly<\/a> threatening to resign if Guehi was sold, having repeatedly <a data-mil=\"326859\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/2025\/08\/marc-guehi-has-to-stay-not-possible-to-find-a-replacement-says-oliver-glasner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said<\/a> in the press of the squad for the 1-0 win over <a data-ail=\"326859\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/arsenal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Arsenal<\/a>, but he is considered a genuine first-team option and will be expected to provide competition to the established order as the season goes on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith Gomez denied a move to <a data-ail=\"326859\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/ac-milan\/\" title=\"AC Milan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">AC Milan<\/a> on deadline day as there was deemed not enough time to finalise, Slot could have been left to work with five senior centre-backs if Guehi had joined.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe word luxury is clearly not a negative one, but the head coach may have found it trickier to keep all three of Guehi, Leoni and Gomez happy behind the first-choice partnership of Van Dijk and Konate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoreover, the Dutchman was already comfortable knowing that he may be required to turn to one of <a data-ail=\"326859\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/wataru-endo\/\" title=\"Wataru Endo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Wataru Endo<\/a>, <a data-ail=\"326859\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/ryan-gravenberch\/\" title=\"Ryan Gravenberch\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ryan Gravenberch<\/a> or <a data-ail=\"326859\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/andy-robertson\/\" title=\"Andy Robertson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Andy Robertson<\/a> as centre-back
