That helped Google win customers including Big Tech player <a rel=\"noamphtml noopener\" class=\"keywordtourl\" href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/about\/apple\/\" target=\"_blank\">Apple<\/a> as well as startups like Anthropic and Safe Superintelligence, two ChatGPT-maker competitors launched by former OpenAI leaders.<\/p>\n<p>The move to rent Google\u2019s TPUs signals the first time OpenAI has used non-Nvidia chips meaningfully and shows the Sam Altman-led company\u2019s shift away from relying on backer <a rel=\"noamphtml noopener\" class=\"keywordtourl\" href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/about\/microsoft\/\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft<\/a>\u2019s data centers.
