Donald Trump<\/a>‘s presence was known at the US Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The president, 79, attended the men\u2019s singles final at the Billie Jean King Center in New York on Sunday, Sept. 7, when he was met with a mix of boos and cheers.<\/p>\n

Trump stepped away from where he was situated in the Rolex box to wave to those also in attendance at around 1:40 p.m. local time, which prompted the crowd reaction.<\/p>\n

He then waved quickly once more, before stepping back inside. The match, which was scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m., was delayed.<\/p>\n

TV stations broadcasting the US Open were previously told not to air any boos or cheers for\u00a0Trump as he attended. The United States Tennis Association (USTA), which hosts the event, told broadcasters to “refrain from showcasing any disruptions or reactions in response to the President\u2019s attendance,” according to an email obtained by Bounces<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Defending champion Jannik Sinner<\/a> is going up against Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> for the Sept. 7 match.<\/p>\n

Alcaraz, 22, won big at the French Open in June, but Sinner, 24, made a triumphant return and scored at Wimbledon a month later. Sinner was previously bested by Alcaraz during the 2022 quarterfinals, before earning his first Grand Slam and U.S. Open title.<\/p>\n

During the women\u2019s singles final a day earlier, Aryna Sabalenka<\/a> won her fourth Grand Slam<\/a>, defeating Amanda Anisimova<\/a>\u00a0in a straight-sets victory.<\/p>\n

Sabalenka, 27, was the first player in more than a decade to win back-to-back\u00a0US Open<\/a>\u00a0titles. The last person to defend their title was now-retired Serena Williams<\/a>\u00a0in 2014.<\/p>\n
