I know even with the pilot categories, we’re already thinking about other ones to add to next year, to make sure that we can recognize everyone who is doing their part to make our city beautiful,” shared Kylie-Anne Grube, Streetscapes Initiative lead.

The first-place winners were presented with a plaque, while the runners-up were honoured with a framed certificate in recognition of their efforts.

Winners were announced by identifying the property.

The winner for the O’Natural category was 668 Fisher Street, 892 Jane Street was selected for the Edible Gardens category, followed by 140 McLean for Overall Curb Appeal. In the Business category, The LUXE Nail walked away the winner, and finally, residents of Pinegrove Crescent won for Street Recognition.

Hariett Madigan, chair of Clean, Green, Beautiful, shared how the Streetscapes program aligns with the mission of Clean, Green, Beautiful North Bay.

“Clean, Green, Beautiful was founded to bring the beauty of the waterfront and a stewardship culture to the whole community. It’s not just about flowers and plants and trees, it is about how we come together as a community and support each other,” noted Madigan.

“If you want to change a culture in the community, you can’t just talk about it; you have to demonstrate it. You have to take action.”

She went further, explaining that creating a beautiful Streetscape can result in conversations, neighbours talking to neighbours.

“We want to create a community that is kinder and more accepting and more resilient and inclusive. And we can do that by creating beauty wherever we are,” added Madigan.

There is still ample opportunity to support Clean, Green, Beautiful North Bay in continuing the work it undertakes for the community.

“We have got our Fall community-wide cleanup coming up. So, we are encouraging businesses and schools to pick up litter on September 19th, and then for the rest of the community and residents, we are hosting it on September 20th,” shared A.J. McGarrity of Clean, Green, Beautiful.

“We will be doing our Adopt a Highway cleanup, where they can email us for more information on that.”

Madigan will be joined by another Clean, Green, Beautiful member, who will be handing out bags to collect litter on the same weekend.

“It is the Fall Fair at the Farmers’ Market on September 20th from 9 until 1:30. We’ll be handing out litter pickup bags. Anybody can come by and pick some up and do a litter pickup in their area or business, or home, wherever they think needs a little bit of cleanup,” explained Sierra Wilson.

A community grows where civic pride is shown.
