San Antonio Water Systems resumes their plant-replacement coupon program to aid residents in conserving water.<\/p>\n
SAN ANTONIO \u2014 The San Antonio area has gotten some decent rainfall recently, but the state remains in drought conditions and the city still has water restrictions.<\/p>\n
To help San Antonians save water, San Antonio Water Systems is resuming their coupon for people to replace lawn grass with a new bed of qualifying drough-resistant plants. \u00a0Earlier this year, the agency had recommended “pausing” summer planting in order to encourage water saving.\u00a0<\/p>\n
With the pause lifted, customers can earn up to $500 in coupons for a total of up to four 200 square feet of lawn areas. The program is called the WaterSaver Landscape Coupon. Each coupon is worth $125 in plants from a local nursery. The program runs until Oct. 15.<\/p>\n
SAWS says that before buying your new plants, prep your bed and upload a photo of the grassy area you are planning to replace. Then, you will upload new photos of the completed bed. If your removal also involved the removal of a sprinkler system, you will want to upload photos of that process as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cBy pausing new planting until the fall, new plants will have all fall, winter and spring to establish their roots before the heat of next summer,\u201d said Karen Guz, SAWS Vice President of Conservation. \u201cThe new plants will be hardy, but when freshly planted, they still need TLC in the form of hand-watering. \u201c<\/p>\n
