WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2014<\/strong> In the wake of reports<\/a> that Donald Trump is meddling in the New York mayoral race to prop up disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo, Joseph Geevarghese, executive director of\u00a0 Our Revolution<\/a>\u2014the nation\u2019s largest grassroots independent political organization\u2014released the following statement blasting Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries for refusing to back Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani.<\/p>\n

\u201cChuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries are siding with the billionaire-backed status quo in the New York mayoral race,\u201d said Joseph Geevarghese, executive director of Our Revolution. \u201cThey\u2019re so captured by their megadonors that they\u2019d rather abandon their own party\u2019s nominee than risk upsetting the moneyed elite\u2014even while Donald Trump is busy trying to prop up Cuomo\u2019s failed campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSchumer and Jeffries aren\u2019t acting like opposition leaders, they\u2019re acting like gatekeepers for the donor class,\u201d Geevarghese continued. \u201cTheir betrayal makes clear they care more about power and campaign cash than standing up for working families. Zohran Mamdani doesn\u2019t need their blessing, but their cowardice is yet another damning indictment of their failed leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ahead of Mamdani\u2019s landslide primary victory this summer, Our Revolution endorsed the Queens Assemblymember and urged its more than 430,000 grassroots supporters across New York City to back him as their top choice on the ballot. Now, with the general election approaching in November, the group is mobilizing its supporters once again to help elect Zohran Mamdani as the city\u2019s next mayor. The group will be launching twice-weekly phonebanks open to New Yorkers and volunteers across the country. Additionally, Our Revolution NY has is activating organizing teams on the ground in all 5 boroughs, canvassing the streets, knocking on doors, and having one on one conversations with general election voters ahead of the November election<\/p>\n
