He&#8217;s been on the loose ever since.<\/p>\n<p>The 38-year-old has an extensive criminal record and was convicted in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/toronto\/raposo-drug-murder-guilty-1.4110997\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a 2012 Toronto murder<\/a>,\u00a0as well as a murder in Vancouver that same year, and was a member of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/british-columbia\/reward-250k-fugitive-rabih-robby-alkhalil-1.6620298\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Canada&#8217;s most wanted list<\/a> after the escape.<\/p>\n<p>Alkhalil, originally from Montreal, was being held in\u00a0the North Fraser Pretrial Centre in Port Coquitlam, B.C.,\u00a0on murder charges <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/british-columbia\/rabih-alkhalil-escapes-north-fraser-pre-trial-1.6528587\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">when he escaped<\/a> on July 21, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Police said Monday that three men have been charged for their roles in Alkhalil&#8217;s escape. (Ben Nelms\/CBC)<\/p>\n<p>Edward Ayoub, 48,\u00a0and\u00a0John Potvin, 49 \u2014 both originally from Ottawa \u2014 and Ryan van Gool, 46, from Harrison Hot Springs,\u00a0B.C., have been charged with conspiracy to commit prison breach and prison breach.<\/p>\n<p>RCMP Cpl. (Bolo Program)<\/p>\n<p>In July 2022,\u00a0two men posing as contractors driving a white Econoline van\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/british-columbia\/rcmp-stock-images-rabih-alkhalil-escape-1.6530437\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">helped Alkhalil break out<\/a>\u00a0of the pretrial centre while he was awaiting a murder trial.<\/p>\n<p>Later that same year, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.boloprogram.org\/what-we-do\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bolo Program\u00a0<\/a>\u2014 which stands for &#8220;be on the lookout&#8221; \u2014 moved Alkhalil to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.boloprogram.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">top of its list of 25 most wanted fugitives in Canada<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"A white Ford van.\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rabih-alkhalil-escape-van.jpg\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.9808811305070657\" data-cy=\"image-img\"\/>Port Coquitlam RCMP say Rabih (Robby) Alkhalil escaped the North Fraser Pretrial Centre in a white Econoline van with two other people. (Port Coquitlam RCMP)<\/p>\n<p>Ayoub and van Gool\u00a0are in custody now, police say.<\/p>\n<p>Potvin is currently wanted on a Canada-wide warrant on the charges, according to police, and residents have been asked to call police if they see him.<\/p>\n<p>Murder plot foiled, police say<\/p>\n<p>Police also announced further charges in relation to alleged murder plots and shootings around B.C. that saw the involvement of van Gool and two other men, who were not involved in the jail escape.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In March of 2024, while conducting the Alkhalil investigation, police uncovered information that has now led to additional charges against Ryan van Gool and two men for allegedly conspiring to murder an individual in Kamloops,&#8221; said RCMP spokesperson\u00a0Sgt.
