He would also receive a city-issued vehicle for official duties and a $10,000 relocation allowance, repayable on a prorated basis if he leaves Fort Worth within two years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If approved, Garcia\u2019s first day as top cop would be Sept. 22.<\/p>\n<p>That salary is about $20,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/local\/dallas-county\/outgoing-dallas-police-chief-eddie-garcia-net-higher-salary-austin-position-offer-letter\/287-2d757226-d36a-4de4-b2e3-52b5f4749bcc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">less than what Garcia was making in Austin<\/a>, where he accepted a job as assistant city manager earlier this year. Austin\u2019s offer letter set his pay at $12,600 per pay period, or $327,600 annually.<\/p>\n<p>It also falls just below his last contract as Dallas Police Chief, which guaranteed him $306,440.40 annually plus a $20,000 retention incentive. That Dallas deal also ensured <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/local\/dallas-county\/dallas-police-chief-eddie-garcias-new-contract-ensures-he-stay-highest-paid-police-chief-texas\/287-9fad61e1-8f33-45ca-96e3-533e43cfe214#%253A~%253Atext=Dallas%2520Police%2520Chief%2520Eddie%2520Garcia&#039;s,Garcia%2520will%2520receive%2520a%2520raise.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Garcia would remain the highest-paid police chief in Texas<\/a> by automatically boosting his pay above any other chief in a city of more than one million people.<\/p>\n<p>Fort Worth\u2019s offer also includes severance protections. If Garcia is terminated without cause, he would receive 20 weeks of pay \u2014 about $117,692 at his current rate. No severance would apply in cases of termination for cause or misconduct.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Garcia replaces Neil Noakes, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/local\/tarrant-county\/outgoing-fort-worth-police-chief-neil-noakes-retires-receives-touching-sendoff\/287-ee6e726c-fbf4-4e7b-ae10-7586f343740f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" id=\"isPasted\">retired after 25 years with the department<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"If approved, Garcia\u2019s first day as top cop would be Sept. 22.
