{"id":21178,"date":"2025-06-28T07:04:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-28T07:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/21178\/"},"modified":"2025-06-28T07:04:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-28T07:04:09","slug":"its-always-sunny-in-philadelphia-star-rob-mcelhenney-files-to-legally-change-his-name","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/21178\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia&#8217; star Rob McElhenney files to legally change his name"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wild card!<\/p>\n<p>Creator and star of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/24\/entertainment\/danny-devito-nearly-died-on-its-always-sunny-in-philadelphia-set-book\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cIt\u2019s Always Sunny in Philadelphia\u201d<\/a> Rob McElhenney has filed to change his legal name, according to reports.<\/p>\n<p>The showrunning Philly favorite will now be going by the name \u201cRob Mac,\u201d according to documents filed in Los Angeles, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2025\/06\/27\/rob-mcelhenney-requests-legal-name-change-rob-mac\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TMZ<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Rob McElhenney has filed to change his legal name to \u201cRob Mac.\u201d Action Images via Reuters<\/p>\n<p>The shortened first and last name brings him much closer to his aggressively dopey beer-slinging character in \u201cAlways Sunny\u201d \u2014 whose name is \u201cMac\u201d \u2014 and is a far cry from the formality of his former government name, \u201cRobert McElhenney III.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the surprise to fans, Mac mentioned the intention to swap some syllables back in a May interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/features\/rob-mcelhenney-kaitlin-olson-wrexham-sunny-falling-in-love-1236404041\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Variety<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs our business and our storytelling is expanding into other regions of the world and other languages in which my name is even harder to pronounce, I\u2019m just going by Rob Mac,\u201d the former real-life bartender told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>However, his wife and \u201cSunny\u201d co-star Kaitlin Olson said the couple\u2019s kids were not in favor of the change and she also expressed some trepidation at the prospect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s Always Sunny in Philadelphia\u201d debuted on FX in 2005. Maint<\/p>\n<p>The 17th season premiere of \u201cIt\u2019s Always Sunny in Philadelphia\u201d will air on July 9.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe kids are really not happy about it, because they have that last name. And so do I, legally!\u201d she told Variety.<\/p>\n<p>Mac is a part-owner, along with Ryan Reynolds, of Welsh soccer club Wrexham FC.<\/p>\n<p>He launched private company \u201cMore Better Industries\u201d in 2024, and was part owner of Philadelphia bar \u201cMac\u2019s Tavern,\u201d which announced Monday it was closing after 15 years in business.  <\/p>\n<p>The 17th season of \u201cIt\u2019s Always Sunny in Philadelphia\u201d premieres on July 9.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Wild card!
