{"id":211815,"date":"2025-09-09T03:37:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-09T03:37:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/211815\/"},"modified":"2025-09-09T03:37:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T03:37:10","slug":"farm-boy-temporarily-closed-after-failing-dinesafe-inspection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/211815\/","title":{"rendered":"Farm Boy temporarily closed after failing DineSafe inspection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A busy grocery store near Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue is temporarily closed following a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/community-people\/health-wellness-care\/health-programs-advice\/food-safety\/dinesafe\/#establishment\/10725289\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/community-people\/health-wellness-care\/health-programs-advice\/food-safety\/dinesafe\/#establishment\/10725289\">failed DineSafe inspection<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">According to Farm Boy\u2019s website, its midtown Toronto location, at 2149 Yonge St. at Soudan Avenue, is closed today and tomorrow, but is expected to reopen on Wednesday at 8 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">City of Toronto\u2019s DineSafe web site indicates that the store was last inspected on Sept. 8 after inspectors observed \u201cone or more crucial infractions &#8230; under the Food Premises Regulation that present an immediate health hazard that cannot be corrected during an inspection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Farm Boy store received a red card for four infractions, two of which are deemed \u201ccrucial,\u201d for food premise maintained in manner permitting health hazard (rodents) and for failing to protect food from contamination or adulteration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The supermarket was also handed a \u201csignificant infraction\u201d for failing to protect against harbouring of pests, and a \u201cminor\u201d one for food premise not being maintained with food handling room in sanitary condition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">CP24 has contacted Toronto Public Health for further comment on the matter.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/KITFOXKM253VWBR7LXU7JLTTME.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/>Farm Boy <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In an email to CTV News Toronto, Farm Boy said it is \u201ccommitted to upholding the highest standards of food safety and cleanliness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cFollowing a public health order, our Yonge and Soudan location at 2149 Yonge St., Toronto, is temporarily closed. We take this matter very seriously and are taking immediate action, including a full sanitation of the store and a comprehensive review by our pest control management company,\u201d spokesperson Aaron Wade wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe are working closely with public health officials to ensure all requirements are met and will share updates on reopening as soon as they are available. (Chris Young\/The Canadian Press)&#13;<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Several people who live in the area and shop at this Farm Boy location have taken to social media to express their shock at the store\u2019s sudden and unexpected closure and share their experiences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Some said they\u2019ve seen rodents inside the store on occasion, which they said may be due to several ongoing construction projects in the immediate area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Sheila Matano, who lives nearby, told CP24 that she shops frequently at that Farm Boy location and was surprised to see its doors locked and shutters drawn when she tried stopping by this afternoon to pick up a few items.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI could see the employees in there cleaning up,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Matano said she\u2019s never seen any pests inside the store but has seen some rat droppings in its rice area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">She said she\u2019s disappointed that the company hasn\u2019t sent out an email informing customers of the situation and the efforts being made to rectify it, adding that would help \u201crestore confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Matano noted that she\u2019s a long-time customer who enjoys shopping at Farm Boy, especially in the fresh meat and fish departments, and is looking forward to the midtown Toronto location reopening with a \u201cclean record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IICJNIZ4UJGGVMFCZUJ7C4YYAE.PNG\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/>Farm Boy Farm Boy in Barrie, Ont. (CTV News\/Mike Arsalides) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Farm Boy store at 2149 Yonge St. was previously inspected on July 7, 2025 and passed, with inspectors noting that \u201cno infractions were observed under the Food Premises Regulation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It did, however, previously receive a yellow conditional pass in May, April, and February.
