MANHATTAN (WABC) — The biggest passenger train operation in the county, Amtrak, recently launched its new premium fleet of trains called “Next Gen Acela.”<\/p>\n
It’s taking a new kind of approach to big deals and selling clothes, which the train company calls “trak suits” for passengers and anyone else.<\/p>\n
Amtrak’s “trak suit’ runway show was all designed by student designers.<\/p>\n
The fashion show celebrated the launch of the Next Gen Acela trains, which are high-speed Amtrak trains along the Northeast Corridor connecting D.C., New York and Boston.<\/p>\n
The trains themselves have upgraded interiors and new technology.<\/p>\n
The fashion show happened in collaboration with the New York School of Design.<\/p>\n
“We are in a constant state of transformation and improvement. We’re doing station upgrades, infrastructure upgrades, new fleet is launching,” said Jessica Davidson of Digital and Brand Marketing for Amtrak. “They are able to take the timeless staple of a tracksuit and apply Amtrak branding and think about the future of style and comfort that our trains offer.”<\/p>\n
Student designers created two original designs, one that travelers could actually wear comfortably on the trains and another couture option.<\/p>\n
Originally from Russia, and now in New York by way of London and Los Angeles,AnastasiiaLukinskaiawas up for the task.<\/p>\n
“In terms of style, I really got inspired by the design of the Acela train because in my opinion it looks really cool and it looks different from all of the other trains, so on my pants you can see the shape that is the pattern on the Acela train itself,” Lukinskaia said.<\/p>\n
The students sketched and made the unique designs themselves.<\/p>\n
The winning design, which was created by Lukinskaia, is getting a limited run as official Amtrakmerch.<\/p>\n
Her track suit is complete with a built-in sleep mask for those long train rides, and it will be available online later this Fall.<\/p>\n
“I didn’t have a production for clothing on that scale before, so it’s something new for me. And I don’t know, that is really exciting,” she said.<\/p>\n
