\n\tLeonardo DiCaprio<\/a> has been waiting to work with Paul Thomas Anderson<\/a> since he famously turned down the leading role in \u201cBoogie Nights.\u201d So even with a lifetime of filmmaking between 1997 and their collaboration on \u201cOne Battle After Another<\/a>,\u201d DiCaprio was a little nervous stepping on set for the first time.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI always get nervous first day, really,\u201d DiCaprio told Variety\u2018s Marc Malkin at the Monday night premiere of \u201cOne Battle After Another\u201d at Hollywood\u2019s TCL Chinese Theatre. \u201cBut by lunch, I\u2019ve kind of locked it in, because, you know, you\u2019re on film, you don\u2019t have time to be nervous.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAnderson\u2019s latest sees DiCaprio in a much less handsome light than audiences are accustomed to. The \u201cWolf of Wall Street\u201d star headlines the thriller as disheveled ex-revolutionary Bob Ferguson, who, long past his prime, must reunite with his former conspirators to rescue his daughter. Other cast members include Teyana Taylor, Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall and Sean Penn.<\/p>\n

\n\tDiCaprio described his character as a guy \u201cthat sits home and smokes pot all the time,\u201d adding that he \u201ctook a lot of inspiration\u201d from Jeff Bridges\u2019 performance as The Dude in 1998\u2019s \u201cThe Big Lebowski.\u201d DiCaprio explained that the sedated nature of Bob brought a certain layer of ease to the role, especially when it came to performing the film\u2019s many stunts, or \u201ca series of failures,\u201d as he puts it.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe did a lot of crazy stuff in this movie,\u201d he explained. \u201cBut you know, that\u2019s the difference of what Paul does. It\u2019s different than everything else. He wants to see the dude fall.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDiCaprio insisted he did go Method for the role by smoking up. \u201cCan\u2019t do it. Can\u2019t perform,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Oscar winner had nothing but praise for Anderson. DiCaprio said he would\u2019ve done \u201cany movie\u201d he asked him to, but felt lucky he got to star in a film Anderson has been developing for \u201cthe last 20 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAnytime you get somebody that\u2019s really trying to do a massive spectacle-odyssey, that is such a unique filmmaker like Paul, you have to jump at the opportunity,\u201d he said. \u201cTo tell you the truth, I would\u2019ve done any movie that he proposed, because he\u2019s that unique and interesting of a filmmaker and that great. But I\u2019m glad I got to do this one.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOne Battle After Another\u201d hits theaters on Sept. 26.<\/p>\n
