Life in your 80s should be about relaxing and enjoying your golden years, but it hasn’t panned out that way for Gladys and Don Johnson.<\/p>\n

The Brisbane-based couple, who’ve been through emotional hell this year following the sudden passing of their beloved daughter Kym, have been dealt a fresh blow.<\/p>\n

In March, Kym was found deceased in her Gold Coast home in what police believe was a tragic accident after falling down the stairs.<\/p>\n

“We’d already lost our son. So we’ve lost both children. It’s just traumatic,” 85-year-old Gladys told A Current Affair.<\/p>\n

Since then, they’ve been battling to remove an unwanted guest from their late daughter’s two-acre Nerang property.<\/p>\n

At the time of her death, Kym had been renting out a granny flat to Jason Davis and his then-girlfriend.<\/p>\n

As executors of Kym’s will, Gladys and Don told him he could keep staying there while they worked out what to do with the place – on one condition.<\/p>\n

“I said if he looked after the property, he could stay rent-free as long as he kept it in good condition, like mowing,” she said.<\/p>\n

But the elderly couple say Davis didn’t hold up his end of the bargain and they also became concerned about cherished items that they expected to find inside the house.<\/p>\n

In June, the couple decided that his free ride was over, advising him in writing that it was time to leave.<\/p>\n

But when their request for him to leave the property wasn’t met, the elderly couple were forced to engage a lawyer, who subsequently hand-delivered a letter to the house.<\/p>\n

The letter reiterated the couple’s wish for Jason to vacate the property, stating he had seven days to comply but this direction was not followed either.<\/p>\n

He’s also sent threatening text messages, stating he’d leave the property as long as he gets “no more threats and no more bull— directed my way.”<\/p>\n

“Otherwise it’s gonna be an eye for an eye.”<\/p>\n

Without a proper written lease agreement in place and no way to kick him out themselves, Gladys and Don were desperate for a resolution and contacted A Current Affair.<\/p>\n

We accompanied them to speak with their unwelcome house guest, but Davis wasn’t happy to see our crew.<\/p>\n

“Everybody knows, in the Gold Coast, it’s pretty hard to find a place. But listen, I’m not here to chat with you mate,” Davis told A Current Affair.<\/p>\n

“I’m actually in the process of leaving.”<\/p>\n

Under repeated questions he declined to provide an exact date of when he would leave, forcing the elderly couple to take action through the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.<\/p>\n

Gladys and Don are hoping to sell the property to bring this sad chapter of their lives to a close.<\/p>\n
