It was the first such attack by Israel on Qatar, which has been a key mediator in ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas and hosts the region\u2019s largest United States military base, Al Udeid href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/9\/9\/qatar-condemns-cowardly-israeli-attack-in-doha\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">condemned<\/a> \u201cin the strongest terms the cowardly Israeli attack\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Here are reactions from regional and international leaders:<\/p>\n<p>UN secretary-general<\/p>\n<p>United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the air raids a \u201cflagrant violation\u201d of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar.<\/p>\n<p>He added that all parties to the Gaza war must work towards achieving a permanent ceasefire rather than destroying the prospects of one.<\/p>\n<p>Saudi Arabia<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Saudi Arabia \u201ccondemns and denounces in the strongest terms the brutal Israeli aggression and the flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the sisterly State of Qatar\u201d, adding that it affirms \u201cits full solidarity\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It warned of the \u201cgrave consequences resulting from the Israeli occupation\u2019s persistence in its criminal transgressions and its blatant violation of the principles of international law and all international norms\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Turkiye<\/p>\n<p>Turkiye\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Israel\u2019s attack on Qatar, saying it shows Israel is not interested in an agreement to end the war on Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe targeting of the Hamas negotiating delegation while ceasefire talks continue shows that Israel does not aim to reach peace, but rather continue the war,\u201d the ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis situation is clear proof that Israel has adopted its expansionist politics in the region and terrorism as a state policy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The United Arab Emirates<\/p>\n<p>The United Arab Emirates also voiced support for Doha, condemning the \u201ctreacherous Israeli attack\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE\u2019s president, said: \u201cThe security of the Arab Gulf states is indivisible, and we stand heart and soul with the sisterly State of Qatar, condemning the treacherous Israeli attack that targeted it, and affirming our full solidarity with it in confronting this aggression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kuwait<\/p>\n<p>Kuwait issued a statement through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemning what it described as \u201cthe brutal aggression against the State of Qatar by the unjust Israeli forces\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the Israeli bombing as a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter and called it a blatant attack on the sovereignty and security of Qatar.<\/p>\n<p>Ministry spokesman Fuad Majali said the Israeli attack constitutes a violation of the sovereignty of an Arab state and is a dangerous and unacceptable provocative escalation that pushes the region towards further violence and conflict and threatens regional and international security and stability.<\/p>\n<p>Iran<\/p>\n<p>Iran described the attack as a \u201cgross violation\u201d, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the \u201cextremely dangerous and criminal action is a gross violation of all international rules and regulations, a violation of Qatar\u2019s national sovereignty and territorial integrity\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Iraq<\/p>\n<p>Iraq\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also criticised the attack, calling it a \u201ccowardly act\u201d and expressing \u201cfull support\u201d for Qatar to confront any aggression.<\/p>\n<p>Palestinian response<\/p>\n<p>Hussein al-Sheikh, vice president of the State of Palestine and vice chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Oraganization, said: \u201cWe strongly condemn the heinous Israeli attack targeting the sisterly State of Qatar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The director general of the Government Media Office in Gaza, Ismail al-Thawabta, said: \u201cThe \u2018Israeli\u2019 occupation committed a cowardly assassination crime in the heart of the Qatari capital, Doha, the mediating state in negotiations between the Palestinian resistance and the occupation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Palestinian Islamic Jihad armed group described the attack as a \u201cblatant criminal act\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Yemen\u2019s Houthi group<\/p>\n<p>Mahdi al-Mashat, head of the Houthi Supreme Political Council, said Arab and Muslim countries must \u201cpay attention\u201d to Israel\u2019s plans before it\u2019s too late.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe warn against a formula for the violations of all countries in the region,\u201d al-Mashat said. \u201cWhat happened in Doha will happen again and more in the rest of the countries if we do not all unite in confronting the Zionist threat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maldives<\/p>\n<p>The Maldives also described the attack as \u201ccowardly and a serious violation of international law\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Maldives stands in solidarity with the State of Qatar and calls on the international community to take urgent and unified action to hold Israel accountable for its numerous and continued violations of international norms and principles,\u201d President Mohamed Muizzu posted on X.<\/p>\n<p>United Kingdom<\/p>\n<p>UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he condemns \u201cIsrael\u2019s strikes on Doha, which violate Qatar\u2019s sovereignty and risk further escalation across the region\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe priority must be an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and a huge surge in aid into Gaza.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>France<\/p>\n<p>French President Emmanuel Macron said in a post on X that the attack against Qatar is \u201cunacceptable, whatever the reason may be\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cI express my solidarity with Qatar and its emir, Sheikh Tamim Al Thani. War must under no circumstances spread in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called the shelling in Doha \u201cunlawful and heinous\u201d, describing it as a blatant violation of Qatar\u2019s sovereignty and territorial integrity.<\/p>\n<p>He said Pakistan \u201cstands firmly with Qatar, as well as with the Palestinian people, against Israeli aggression\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Hamas<\/p>\n<p>Hamas described the attack as \u201ca heinous crime, a blatant aggression, and a flagrant violation of all international norms and laws\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It \u201cconstitutes an attack on the sovereignty of the sisterly State of Qatar \u2026 and reveals the criminal nature of the occupation and its desire to undermine any chances of reaching an agreement\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Hamas\u2019s representative in Tehran, Khaled al-Qaddoumi, said the assassination attempt on the group\u2019s leaders during a meeting in Doha had failed.<\/p>\n<p>He said Israel acted \u201cwith direct support from the United States\u201d and accused Washington of paving the way for the attack under the guise of ceasefire talks.<\/p>\n<p>Lebanon<\/p>\n<p>The Lebanese government denounced \u201cin the strongest terms\u201d what it called a flagrant violation of Qatar\u2019s sovereignty.<\/p>\n<p>It urged the international community to act against repeated Israeli aggression that threatens \u201csecurity and stability in the entire region\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Morocco<\/p>\n<p>The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the kingdom \u201cstrongly condemns the blatant Israeli aggression\u201d and denounces the violation of Qatar\u2019s sovereignty.<\/p>\n<p>It expressed solidarity with Doha in the face of what it described as a dangerous escalation.<\/p>\n<p>Syria<\/p>\n<p>Damascus condemned the attacks in Doha as \u201ca blatant violation of international law and the sovereignty of the State of Qatar\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Syria said the attack was a \u201cdangerous escalation that undermines security and stability in the region\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Sudan<\/p>\n<p>Khartoum\u2019s Foreign Ministry called the bombing \u201ca clear violation of international laws and norms\u201d. It voiced \u201cfull solidarity\u201d with Qatar and urged the international community to take measures to halt such \u201cbrutal attacks\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Egypt<\/p>\n<p>Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi expressed his country\u2019s \u201cfull solidarity\u201d with Qatar during a call with its emir, Sheikh Tamim Al Thani, the Egyptian presidency said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president stressed Egypt\u2019s strong condemnation and denunciation of the aggressive act committed by Israel against the brotherly State of Qatar, affirming Egypt\u2019s categorical rejection of any violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>Gulf Cooperation Council<\/p>\n<p>GCC Secretary-General Jasem al-Budaiwi called the attack a \u201cdespicable and cowardly operation\u201d and pledged solidarity with Qatar.<\/p>\n<p>He said the aggression violated \u201call international laws and treaties\u201d and urged the international community to hold Israel accountable.<\/p>\n<p>Algeria<\/p>\n<p>Algeria denounced the \u201cbrutal Israeli aggression\u201d in Doha and voiced \u201cfull and absolute solidarity\u201d with Qatar.<\/p>\n<p>It said the attack on the Hamas negotiating team proved Israel \u201cis not inclined toward peace\u201d and warned the region was being dragged into \u201can endless cycle of insecurity\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Oman<\/p>\n<p>Muscat\u2019s Foreign Ministry condemned what it called the \u201cbrutal attack launched by Israel\u201d. It expressed solidarity with Qatar and described the bombing as a breach of international law.<\/p>\n<p>Mauritania<\/p>\n<p>Mauritania\u2019s foreign ministry said Israel\u2019s actions were a \u201cflagrant violation of international conventions and laws\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It added that Nouakchott \u201caffirms its support for the sisterly State of Qatar in all measures aimed at preserving its security and the safety of its citizens\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Kazakhstan<\/p>\n<p>President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said: \u201cWhatever the motives behind these actions are unacceptable, as it violates the sovereignty of the State of Qatar and contravenes the principles of international law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He condemned Israel\u2019s military attack in Doha as a violation of international norms.<\/p>\n<p>Spain<\/p>\n<p>Spain\u2019s foreign ministry said: \u201cThe Spanish Government strongly condemns Israel\u2019s bombing of Qatari territory.\u201d It called the attack \u201ca violation of Qatari territorial sovereignty and a flagrant breach of international law\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Libya<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dabaiba said he \u201cstrongly condemned the Israeli aggression against the State of Qatar, affirming full solidarity with its leadership and people\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the attack was a \u201cblatant violation of international law\u201d and urged Arab and Islamic states to unite against such actions.<\/p>\n<p>Italy<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, said she expresses her \u201csincere support for Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Qatar, reaffirming Italy\u2019s support for all efforts to end the war in Gaza\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cItaly remains opposed to any form of escalation that could further exacerbate the crisis in the Middle East.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Germany<\/p>\n<p>German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock described the Israeli attack in Doha as \u201cunacceptable\u201d.
