Tour campaign, further establishing himself as one of the greatest players of his generation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kicking off the year in Melbourne, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/rod-laver-reacts-as-jannik-sinner-beats-alexander-zverev-in-the-australian-open-final\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner defended his Australian Open title<\/a>, defeating Alexander Zverev in the final.<\/p>\n<p>After a three-month suspension from tennis, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner<\/a> returned on clay, losing to his greatest rival, Carlos Alcaraz, in the final of the French Open shortly after.<\/p>\n<p>Getting his revenge on the grass, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/marion-bartoli-noticed-what-carlos-alcaraz-did-when-jannik-sinner-returned-to-the-court-as-wimbledon-champion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner won Wimbledon<\/a>, beating Alcaraz in the final, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/marion-bartoli-makes-bold-carlos-alcaraz-prediction-after-his-us-open-win-mark-my-words\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner lost to Alcaraz again<\/a>, at Flushing Meadows.<\/p>\n<p>As he now slowly builds up to the biggest tournament left on his 2025 ATP Tour schedule, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp-finals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP Finals<\/a>, Sinner has been granted honorary citizenship to Turin, the host city of the event.<\/p>\n<p>Weighing in with his thoughts on the decision and the future of the event in Turin, Mayor Stefano Lo Russo had this to say.<\/p>\n<p>Turin mayor \u2018hopes\u2019 the ATP Finals will remain in the city for another five years<\/p>\n<p>During a meeting at the Turin City Council on Monday, September 9, 24\/24 votes were cast in favor of Sinner being granted honorary citizenship.<\/p>\n<p>The Turin mayor, who signed off on the decision, was full of praise for the world number two.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to celebrate the deep bond between Jannik [Sinner] and our city, which in recent years has had the honor of witnessing his exploits at the ATP Finals, which Turin has hosted, proving to be the ideal home for world-class tennis,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\" long will the event remain in the city?<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Jannik Sinner] can also be counted among those who have made Turin famous worldwide, thanks in part to the association with a major tennis event that we hope to have for another five years,\u201d said Lo Russo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope that the problems that have arisen between the government and the FITP [Italian Tennis and Padel Federation] will not jeopardize what was announced last year: the continuation of the ATP Finals in Italy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am thinking and hoping for Turin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was announced last year that the ATP Finals would stay in Italy until 2030, although there was no confirmation that Turin would be the host city beyond 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Rumors have circulated that the event could be moved to Milan, at the new \u2018Arena Santa Giulia\u2019, a venue being built for the 2026 Winter Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>Only time will tell where the ATP Finals will be hosted in the future, but it will certainly be something to look out for.<\/p>\n<p>Every ATP Finals host city since the first edition in 1970<\/p>\n<p>The first-ever ATP Finals were played in Tokyo, 55 years ago, and were won by American star Stan Smith.<\/p>\n<p>25 other players have won the title since, at 15 different
