JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 Homeowners on Black Hammock Island are seeking remedies for persistent flooding issues in their neighborhood.<\/p>\n
A section of Sawpit Road, which is the main road on the island, was underwater on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
But neighbors said it\u2019s not just that area that is problematic.<\/p>\n
Ron Browder has lived on Waterville Road for over 20 years.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf it rains, you won\u2019t see pavement,\u201d said Browder.<\/p>\n
It is surrounded by a wetland on one side and the Nassau River on the other.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe flooding occurs almost on a daily basis,\u201d said Browder. \u201cThe water never drains.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said if the road was paved, it would help fix part of the problem.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur road never drains because it is not maintained,\u201d said Brower. \u201cIf it was maintained, it would have a big improvement.\u201d<\/p>\n
[DOWNLOAD: <\/b>Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks<\/b><\/a>]<\/b><\/p>\n Meanwhile, Kelly Craft said her complaints are over the ditches.<\/p>\n Last week, she submitted 7 service requests for ditches along Shark Road West.<\/p>\n Craft said they are constantly full of water after it rains and not draining properly.<\/p>\n \u201cThe ditches continue to fill and overfill, and they just create issues everywhere,\u201d said Craft.<\/p>\n Neighbors said this flooding has nothing to do with the tide.<\/p>\n They want something to be done to ensure all of the issues are taken care of.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is no reason why the city should not present themselves and take care of the infrastructure that they own,\u201d said Craft. \u201cThey have a duty to taxpayers, right, to make sure that they are functioning and they are just not.\u201d<\/p>\n City Councilmember Mike Gay, who represents that area, said he is aware of these issues and has been communicating the need for action to the appropriate departments. <\/p>\n Action News Jax will stay on this to make sure these folks get answers.<\/p>\n
