{"id":214960,"date":"2025-09-10T07:48:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-10T07:48:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/214960\/"},"modified":"2025-09-10T07:48:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-10T07:48:11","slug":"nampijinpa-price-refuses-to-back-leys-leadership-or-apologise-for-comments-on-indian-migrants-jacinta-nampijinpa-price","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/214960\/","title":{"rendered":"Nampijinpa Price refuses to back Ley\u2019s leadership or apologise for comments on Indian migrants | Jacinta Nampijinpa Price"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Jacinta Nampijinpa Price has again refused to apologise for comments about Indian migrants or express confidence in Sussan Ley\u2019s leadership, escalating a damaging internal war that has engulfed the party.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Country Liberal senator fronted reporters on Wednesday following days of calls from inside and outside the party for her to apologise for suggesting the federal government\u2019s migration program favoured Indians to win Labor votes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Price has clarified the initial remarks \u2013 acknowledging Australia has a non-discriminatory migration program \u2013 but has repeatedly refused to apologise for the hurt caused to Indian-Australians.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Speaking in Perth, where she headlined a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/liberal-party\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liberal party<\/a> fundraiser with senior colleague Michaelia Cash, the Northern Territory senator conceded her comments were \u201cclumsy\u201d but did not apologise for them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Instead, she declared she \u201cwon\u2019t be silenced\u201d on what she claimed was the problem of \u201cmass migration in our country\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThat was the prime issue that I was talking about, and continue to talk about, and an issue that I truly believe that we need to be able to have a respectful debate about,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The fallout to Price\u2019s initial comments have ignited open warfare inside the Liberals, exposing the factional tensions and personal grievances that have simmered since Ley defeated Angus Taylor to win the Liberal leadership.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Price defected from the Nationals to the Liberals to run as Taylor\u2019s potential deputy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Asked repeatedly on Wednesday if she supported Ley\u2019s leadership, Price would not endorse her leader.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThose matters are for our party room,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Ley has refused to publicly ask for Price to apologise despite several Coalition MPs calling for it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Asked how she would repair the divide within the party, Price encouraged her colleagues to move on and focus on the Albanese government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThose matters in terms of our party are obviously for our leadership. I would love to be able to move forward from this because there are issues.
