The San Francisco 49ers have officially found a new kicker. <\/p>\n

San Francisco is signing former Carolina Panthers kicker Eddy Pi\u00f1eiro after waiving Jake Moody, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.<\/p>\n

After competing to keep his job during training camp, Moody was waived by the 49ers on Tuesday following a rough Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks. He missed two field goals in Sunday’s 17-13 victory.<\/p>\n

Moody went 1-for-3 overall against the Seahawks. He missed a 27-yard attempt late in the second quarter and had a 36-yard attempt blocked in the third quarter. <\/p>\n

The third attempt saw Moody connect from 32 yards to tie the score at 10 early in the fourth quarter. He also made both of his extra-point attempts. <\/p>\n

After Moody’s second miss of the game, Fox Sports sideline reporter Pam Oliver said<\/a> on the telecast she “saw two thrown helmets and a lot of ticked-off looking players” on the 49ers’ sideline. <\/p>\n

Since Week 10 of last season, Moody has really struggled to make kicks. He made 12 of his last 23 attempts over the past 10 games, including a 35.7 percent success rate from at least 40 yards (5-of-14). <\/p>\n

Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters<\/a> immediately after Sunday’s game he had “no question” that Moody would remain San Francisco’s kicker before adding the coaching staff would “evaluate stuff” during the week before making any final decisions. <\/p>\n

The 49ers brought in Greg Joseph as competition with Moody during training camp. Joseph, a six-year NFL veteran, wound up being waived<\/a> on Aug. 4, all but ensuring Moody would be the kicker when the regular season started. <\/p>\n

Moody was a third-round pick by the 49ers in the 2023 draft. He went 21-of-25 as a rookie, then made all three extra points and two field goals in the Super Bowl 58 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. <\/p>\n

Pi\u00f1eiro, 29, spent the last three seasons of his career in Carolina. He made 84.6 percent of his field goals in 2024 and 94.3 percent of his extra-point attempts. He began his career with the Chicago Bears in 2019 and also had a stint with the New York Jets in 2021. <\/p>\n

The 49ers will take on the New Orleans Saints at the Caesars Superdome on Sunday, and it’s likely Pi\u00f1eiro will make his debut.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The San Francisco 49ers have officially found a new kicker.
