The New York City Police Department is tracking the situation in Qatar, deploying additional resources to certain areas after Israel targeted Hamas leaders in Doha.<\/a><\/p>\n

While there is no specific threat, the NYPD posted to X, saying they are doing it “out of an abundance of caution.”<\/p>\n

“We’re deploying additional resources to religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites across NYC and coordinating with our federal partners. We’ll continue to monitor for any potential impact to NYC.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said that the NYPD has increased police presence across bridges and through tunnels.<\/p>\n

Tisch said that the increased police presence is common for this time of year, as it is around the time of the 9\/11 anniversary.<\/p>\n

All of this comes after Israel conducted a precise strike in Doha on Tuesday, “targeting the senior leadership of the Hamas terrorist organization,” according to Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n

Qatar, which has been a key mediator in ceasefire talks, condemned the attack<\/a>, calling it “cowardly” and affirming that “it will not tolerate this reckless Israeli behavior and the continuous tampering with the region\u2019s security, nor any action targeting its security and sovereignty.”<\/p>\n

Hamas said in a statement obtained by CNN that the strike in Doha killed five of its members but did not assassinate the negotiating delegation.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWe affirm the enemy\u2019s failure to assassinate the brothers in the negotiating delegation,\u201d the group said.<\/p>\n

Hamas accused Israel of not taking ceasefire negotiations seriously and that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not want to reach an agreement.<\/p>\n

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called the attack “unfortunate,” adding that “unilaterally bombing inside Qatar, a sovereign nation and close ally of the United States that is working very hard in bravely taking risks with us to broker peace, does not advance Israel or America\u2019s goals.”<\/p>\n

Leavitt said Trump spoke to Netanyahu after the attack and “made his thoughts and concerns very clear.”<\/p>\n

The Trump administration was reportedly notified ahead of the Israeli strike.<\/p>\n

Shortly after the attack, Netanyahu said it was a “wholly independent Israeli operation<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

“Israel initiated it, Israel conducted it, and Israel takes full responsibility,” the prime minister explained.<\/p>\n
