Bestselling fantasy author Brandon Sanderson<\/a> is giving readers a peek into one of his upcoming books. <\/p>\n

During Seattle Worldcon, a science fiction convention that took place last month, Sanderson held the first public reading<\/a> of an excerpt from \u201cGhostbloods,\u201d which will be his third trilogy in \u201cThe Mistborn Saga.\u201d And on Monday, the \u201cGhostbloods\u201d excerpt was posted on Sanderson\u2019s website<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cGhostbloods\u201d will be set roughly 50 years after the events of the second \u201cMistborn\u201d series, per Sanderson\u2019s website<\/a>, placing the story in a more modern era.<\/p>\n

\u201cI realized I had never seen a fantasy series where the foundations of religion and government are laid in an epic fantasy, and then you jump forward in time to see the science fiction version of that world,\u201d Sanderson told the Worldcon audience<\/a> about his inspiration behind \u201cThe Mistborn Saga.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Sanderson revealed<\/a> that he expected the first \u201cGhostbloods\u201d book to be released in 2028. He said at the time that he intended to finish writing all three books in the new trilogy before publishing the first book. <\/p>\n

\u201cMy goal is to write the three books straight through,\u201d he said at Worldcon<\/a>, \u201cthen hand them off to production to do continuity and the like.\u201d<\/p>\n

What is \u2018The Mistborn Saga\u2019? <\/p>\n

Sanderson\u2019s \u201cMistborn Saga\u201d is currently comprised of two separate book series, as the Deseret News<\/a> previously reported: the original trilogy and the \u201cWax and Wayne\u201d series. \u201cGhostbloods\u201d will be the third series in the saga. <\/p>\n

The original series is a \u201chybrid epic fantasy heist story,\u201d per Sanderson\u2019s website, and is made up of three books, plus a novella. The \u201cWax and Wayne\u201d series is set in the same world as the original trilogy, but takes place 300 years later, and is made up of four books. <\/p>\n

What else is new with Brandon Sanderson?<\/p>\n

Sanderson will be releasing a collection of short stories<\/a>, titled \u201cTailored Realities<\/a>,\u201d on Dec. 9. The collection will include the novella \u201cMoment Zero,\u201d as well as nine other works of short fiction that go \u201cbeyond the bounds of Brandon Sanderson\u2019s Cosmere universe,\u201d according to the publisher. <\/p>\n

In February 2026, Sanderson will release a standalone novel, \u201cIsles of the Emberdark<\/a>,\u201d which fits into his Cosmere universe and was originally released as one of his \u201csecret project\u201d books.<\/p>\n

Also in February, Sanderson will be the keynote speaker at StoryCon, which is Utah\u2019s largest writing conference, according to KSL.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n
