A Preston Hollow<\/a> home built for a late Dallas oil tycoon has hit the market with an asking price of $28.5 million.<\/p>\n

The estate at 4606 Park Lane once belonged to the late Cary Maguire<\/a>, the founder of the Maguire Oil Company and Maguire Energy Company. The businessman and philanthropist, whose charity left an indelible mark on Southern Methodist University, had the Neo-Georgian-style mansion built in 1985. <\/p>\n

Designed by architect Jack Hemphill, the home once hosted presidents and luminaries. The nearly 21,000-square-foot home sits on a 3.2-acre lot. It is the second-most expensive residential property within Dallas city limits listed on the MLS. Only the Crespi Estate<\/a> at $64 million is higher.<\/p>\n

Dallas Central Appraisal District records show the Park Lane estate is currently owned by the Four Thousand Trust. Those affiliated with the trust purchased the home in 2022 in the months following Maguire\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

The current owners spent the last two and a half years modernizing and renovating the property. It was supposed to be a forever home, but a job-mandated relocation changed things, said Faisal Halum, listing agent and broker associate with Compass.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole home has been completely redone,\u201d he said. \u201cEvery surface, all of the mechanicals, all the windows, roof \u2014 just you name it.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s an entertainer\u2019s dream.<\/p>\n

Inside, you\u2019re greeted by a checkerboard marble entryway and a sweeping staircase that takes you to the second floor. There\u2019s elevator access to all three levels of the property.<\/p>\n

The Great Hall extends east to west, connecting the entire first floor with multilayered plaster crown molding, refinished original hardwood parquet floors and custom light fixtures from Charles Edwards in London. Men\u2019s and women\u2019s powder rooms are located off the hall.<\/p>\n

The two-story Great Den features 23-foot soaring ceilings, an attached bar and custom chandeliers. The home\u2019s original handcrafted mantle, wood bookcases, millwork and molding were all refinished.<\/p>\n

The library\u2019s built-in bookshelves with high-glossed paneling would please any bookworm. The French doors to the south veranda and the coffee bar behind the fireplace are just the little cherry on top.<\/p>\n

New owners could host gatherings in the glass-ceiling conservatory or barrel-vaulted banquet hall. The home\u2019s Art Deco-inspired bar looks like something you might find at one of Jay Gatsby\u2019s parties.<\/p>\n

The black room is high-glossed, thanks to multiple coats of lacquered paint. The geometric-patterned white and black marble floor with brass inlays pops against the sleek darkness, and there\u2019s a custom wine room in the home\u2019s west wing for you to stock up for those long evenings.<\/p>\n

The home isn\u2019t just for entertaining. The secluded primary suite\u2019s jamb fireplace opens to a glass oval sitting room. The bathroom has a sculptural brass bathtub, and there\u2019s a dry sauna on the first floor. The suite also includes two dressing rooms and a private glam room.<\/p>\n

The home\u2019s second floor features three bedrooms and the larger of the home\u2019s two laundry rooms. On the third floor is the home\u2019s gown storage closet, a pilates studio and a large loft space that is a perfect play spot for children. Outside, gaslit pathways lead to a four-car garage and private gym. <\/p>\n

The halls of the home hold memories from parties and visiting dignitaries of days gone by. <\/p>\n

Both George Bushes and Gerald Ford were among the commanders-in-chief who visited the Maguire estate to tour the oilman\u2019s collection of presidential memorabilia. Seven \u201cwannabe\u201d presidents have also visited the home, Maguire told The Dallas Morning News in 2007 following then-Vice President Dick Cheney\u2019s visit. <\/p>\n

Noteworthy items in the collection include rare presidential artifacts like the White House china of Benjamin Harrison and a bronze bust of every ex-president.<\/p>\n

Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher sat down with former President George H.W. Bush for a political discussion at the home in 1993. Then-President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus also toured the presidential collection in 2005. Legendary Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach emceed an event at the house in 2006.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s plenty of space to be creative, too. The Maguires erected an air-conditioned, temporary glass pavilion that covered almost their entire backyard for Cary\u2019s 80th birthday in 2008.<\/p>\n

The home offers a rare opportunity for a buyer with plenty of space for new memories, Halum said.<\/p>\n
