{"id":215947,"date":"2025-09-10T16:36:16","date_gmt":"2025-09-10T16:36:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/215947\/"},"modified":"2025-09-10T16:36:16","modified_gmt":"2025-09-10T16:36:16","slug":"zohran-mamdani-maintains-big-lead-in-new-york-mayors-race-new-poll-finds-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/215947\/","title":{"rendered":"Zohran Mamdani maintains big lead in New York mayor\u2019s race, new poll finds | New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/zohran-mamdani\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zohran Mamdani<\/a> continues to hold a commanding lead in the race for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/new-york\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York<\/a> City mayor, with a new poll released on Wednesday showing the Democratic nominee 15 points ahead of former governor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/andrew-cuomo\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andrew Cuomo<\/a>, who is running as an independent candidate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The new poll, conducted by <a href=\"https:\/\/emersoncollegepolling.com\/nyc-2025-mayor\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emerson College Polling\/PIX11\/The Hill<\/a>, shows Mamdani with 43% support among New York City registered voters, compared with 28% for Cuomo, who is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/jul\/14\/andrew-cuomo-new-york-city-mayor-independent\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">running as an independent<\/a> after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/jun\/24\/new-york-mayoral-primary-results\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">losing the Democratic primary <\/a>to Mamdani in June.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Mamdani, a democratic socialist, has triggered excitement among many progressives and leftists in the Democratic party and unease with some centrist party leaders. His leftwing populist agenda propelled him to a shock win in the party primary, creating global headlines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In the Emerson poll, the Republican nominee, Curtis Sliwa, received 10% support, while the incumbent mayor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/eric-adams\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eric Adams<\/a>, who is also running as an independent, polled at 8%. Nine per cent of respondents said they were still undecided.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Among voters who said they were \u201cvery likely\u201d to vote in the November election, Mamdani leads Cuomo 46% to 27%. The poll also found Mamdani holds a 29-point lead over Cuomo among voters under 50, and a six-point lead among voters over 50.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The new results mirror other polling by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/09\/09\/nyregion\/mayor-poll-mamdani-cuomo.html\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times\/Siena University<\/a> released this week, which found Mamdani leading Cuomo 46% to 24% among likely voters. href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/new-york\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York<\/a> City, 49% of voters chose Mamdani, compared with 24% for Cuomo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">An earlier poll <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/aug\/12\/nyc-mayoral-election-mamdani-cuomo\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">released in August <\/a>by the <a href=\"https:\/\/sri.siena.edu\/2025\/08\/12\/hochul-approval-favorability-ratings-up-a-little-hochul-lead-over-stefanik-in-2026-race-falls-to-14-points-45-31-from-23-points-47-24-in-june-voters-say-if-stefanik-runs-is-elected-g\/?_gl=1*1db1z9l*_ga*MTA0MDE2Nzg2OC4xNzU1MDAzNTE3*_ga_XN3VDZ9ZYZ*czE3NTUwMDM1MTckbzEkZzAkdDE3NTUwMDM1MTckajYwJGwwJGgw\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Siena Institute <\/a>showed Mamdani ahead of Cuomo by 19 points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">According to recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/news\/politics\/trump-discussed-roles-adams-sliwa-clear-path-cuomo\/6383831\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a>, advisers of Donald Trump have made efforts to get Adams to drop out of the race in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/09\/05\/nyregion\/eric-adams-saudi-arabia-ambassador.html\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> exchange for a possible role in the Trump administration<\/a>, with the goal of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/09\/03\/nyregion\/trump-adams-sliwa-quit-nyc-mayor.html\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">clearing the field<\/a> for a two-person race between Cuomo and Mamdani.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The New York Times also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/09\/03\/nyregion\/trump-adams-sliwa-quit-nyc-mayor.html\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> that the talks had also involved finding a possible place in the administration for Sliwa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">If Adams and Sliwa were to suspend their campaigns, the Times\/Siena poll found that the race would tighten, with 48% supporting Mamdani and 44% supporting Cuomo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">However, with eight weeks remaining until election day, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/sep\/05\/eric-adams-staying-in-mayoral-race\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Adams<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/09\/09\/nyregion\/curtis-sliwa-nyc-mayor.html\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sliwa <\/a>have publicly stated that they have no intention of dropping out of the race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">This past weekend, Mamdani appeared alongside the Vermont senator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/bernie-sanders\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bernie Sanders<\/a> at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/sep\/07\/we-have-the-people-bernie-sanders-campaigns-with-zohran-mamdani-as-new-york-mayoral-race-enters-final-stretch\" data-link-name=\"in body
