P\u00e8re-Ren\u00e9-de-Galin\u00e9e Catholic Secondary School in Cambridge has been closed for an investigation early morning on Wednesday because of threats made on social media.<\/p>\n
In a notice sent to parents and guardians from the Conseil Scolaire Catholique MonAvenir school board, it says the school had to be closed because of “a serious situation … currently the subject of a police investigation.”<\/p>\n
Cherri Greeno, spokesperson for the Waterloo Regional Police Service, says detectives were investigating a threat made against the school.<\/p>\n
“We are investigating after social media threats were made to cause harm to students within the school on [Wednesday]. Officers will be present at the school as they continue to investigate and to determine the validity of the threats,” she told CBC News.<\/p>\n
All school buses going to the school were also cancelled Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
School members received ‘threatening message’<\/p>\n
Marion Denonfoux is the school board’s communications advisor. She told CBC News they decided to close the school for security reasons around 6 a.m. on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
“The school administration was informed of a threatening message sent to certain members of the school community via social media.\u00a0The administration immediately alerted the Waterloo Regional Police Service, which has launched an investigation,” she said.<\/p>\n
She says the school board is working closely with police.<\/p>\n
