This afternoon, Virginia Cavaliers head basketball coach Ryan Odom met with the media as part of his preseason availability to provide updates on the team and offer progress reports on specific players. He touched on Dallin Hall\u2019s leadership, praising him by saying, \u201cthere\u2019s just a trust there,\u201d and added that Malik Thomas, Devin Tillis, and Thijs DeRidder will also be tasked with leadership roles due to their experience.<\/p>\n
Most notably, however, is how the self-proclaimed \u201cgear guy\u201d mentioned that there will be three additional alternate uniforms for the upcoming season for the Virginia Cavaliers. Odom touched on how he has little to no say in what Nike Elite jerseys are provided\/designed by Nike; Virginia will wear those and has to wear them as they are Nike Elite.<\/p>\n
But he did announce that the \u2018Hoos will sport three new alternate uniforms in the coming season.<\/p>\n
He would not reveal any information on the new uniforms, but he confirmed there will be some sort of \u201creveal\u201d once they arrive.<\/p>\n
So, for the next month or so, we will have to speculate on the design, and if the new practice uniforms tell us anything, it\u2019s that there will be more orange in these alternates. We could see a nod to an era of the past, perhaps the Ralph Sampson era.<\/p>\n
Why? I will pull a card out of Coach Odom\u2019s playbook and say that I can\u2019t tell you. I\u2019ll give you a hint, however, take a look at Odom\u2019s sweatshirt he wore today at the press conference. We have seen this font resurface again, and I get the feeling that the \u201cgear guy\u201d is a fan of the look, and we know, as a fact, that he has a fond memory of the Sampson days.
