(WKYT) &#8211; Construction at Phoenix Park downtown has been going on since June 2024, and now we\u2019re just over one week away from its official opening. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">The park is located at Main and Limestone. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">WKYT was invited for a tour on Wednesday to check out the amenities.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"The park is located at Main and Limestone. It opens September 18 at 4:30 p.m.(WKYT)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThe park was built decades ago and many of its features were getting to the end of life,\u201d said Michelle Kosieniak with Parks and Recreation. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">Kosieniak said Phoenix Park became a forgotten space, until now. The one-acre park is full of family-friendly activities. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe\u2019ve got Gatton Park at Town Branch on one end of downtown. We\u2019ve got our great Charles Young Park at the east end of downtown and this kind of sits in the middle,\u201d said Kosieniak. \u201cWe thought, what a nice way if someone is visiting they can go to all three parks and it just really livens up the downtown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The park features picnic tables and swinging benches, a dog park, bathrooms, a stage for live music and a play area for endless climbing. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThis is actually rated for ages 5-12, but you can be 12 at heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">It has a three-story enclosed playground with multiple obstacle courses. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">If you have kids younger than five years old they can use the smaller playground with sensory play, a slide and hand-crank music ball. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">The park also has what\u2019s called the Neos 360. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">It\u2019s an electronic game that can be played by one or two people. It tests your social awareness and peripheral vision. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Kosieniak said parks are vital to communities and she\u2019s excited to see it fill up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cParks are the places that we gather as a community.
