The digital scoreboard directed fans and players to safety during the first of multiple weather warnings which delayed the start of the Lovejoy versus Highland Park football game. Arlington High<\/a> was leading Flower Mound Marcus<\/a> 7-0 on Friday when the nondistrict football game was called off midway through the second quarter because of lightning.<\/p>\n

The teams would have had to wait until around midnight to start back up because the weather was so severe, and Marcus coach Mike Alexander said neither coach wanted to postpone it and come back Saturday to finish.<\/p>\n

Alexander thought the coaches had agreed the game would be no contest and would not count toward either team\u2019s record.<\/p>\n

But after the game Friday, Arlington coach Scott Peach emailed The Dallas Morning News saying Arlington won 7-0 and the teams \u201cdid play an official football game.\u201d<\/p>\n

He and Alexander were among several Dallas-area coaches trying to determine the outcome ofgames that weren\u2019t finished Friday night because of the weather<\/a>. There is no official UIL rule for nondistrict games, which have no bearing on whether a team makes the playoffs.<\/p>\n
