September is National Recovery Month, so it\u2019s a good time to highlight resources.<\/p>\n
For the past year and a half, Unleashed Phoenix has had an office in the Tech Village in downtown Duluth.<\/p>\n
Tucked on the 5th floor, the non-profit is focused on helping people overcome trauma and substance abuse.<\/p>\n
And they are committed to empowering Native Americans and other marginalized populations.<\/p>\n
Edna Ellison is the Executive Director, and knows all too well the cycle of generational trauma. \u201cI was born into this,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
There is help with healing, with culturally appropriate drum circles and sound bowls as well.<\/p>\n
Unleashed works with area tribes across Minnesota and Wisconsin.<\/p>\n
Jill Hartlev is from the Bad River Band, and said, \u201cA lot of people don\u2019t want to say they are looking for recovery, or I\u2019m using. So it\u2019s kind of touchy to see how we can make the connection.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ellison said being sober doesn\u2019t mean you don\u2019t have obstacles, so they work to help people reach their full potential. It could mean help getting their driver\u2019s license back, or financial literacy classes.<\/p>\n
Each person who they meet and help, can reach another. \u201cYou\u2019re living and working and remaining sober. It will help squash the stigma, because you\u2019ll be a role model and you can be living proof of what it can take to succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n
