Set within a monochromatic red environment, the new exhibit &#8220;PASS\u00c9&#8221; celebrates movement, stillness and symmetry\u2014showcasing\u00a0ballet in a minimalist, yet intimate perspective. It makes for a beautifully choreographed dance that seems to leap from the walls.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;PASS\u00c9&#8221; is on view\u00a0September 12\u201314 from 10am to 6pm at 347 Broome Street in Nolita.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>RECOMMENDED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/art\/nyc-art-exhibitions-fall-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">17 NYC art exhibitions we&#8217;re most excited about in fall 2025<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During viewings, guests will enter through The Red Room, walking a full-length red carpet originally used during the shoot itself.\u00a0Life-sized prints will line the space at eye level, placing viewers face-to-face with the dancers in intense detail.\u00a0Walls invites viewers to not just observe the beauty of ballet, but to step into the lives and\u00a0stories\u00a0of the dancers themselves.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Walls is an Australian visual artist known for transforming everyday subjects into art that contains compositions of symmetry, space and form. Now based in New York, Walls rose to fame with his signature minimalist birds-eye perspective, capturing everything from synchronized swimmers to ballet dancers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"06ab5b54-5ac4-ad36-f4dd-936f01d250ef\" class=\"photo lazy inline\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"lazy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/1757540416_748_image.webp.webp\" alt=\"ballerinas in white lying on the floor in different positions with a red background\" data-caption=\"\" data-credit=\"Photograph: Courtesy of PASS\u00c9\" data-width-class=\"\" data-image-id=\"106317884\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nPhotograph: Courtesy of PASS\u00c9&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The catalyst for\u00a0the project\u00a0started with a moment of vulnerability during Walls&#8217;\u00a0first ballet shoot in 2021 featuring\u00a0dancer Montana Rubin when\u00a0a\u00a0group of young triplets approached Rubin and were visibly moved. &#8220;It reminded me that ballet, while celebrated for its perfection, is also deeply human,&#8221; Walls said in a press release. &#8220;This project is about honoring that\u2014about making the distance between performer and viewer disappear.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After three years in development, &#8220;PASS\u00c9&#8221; is Walls&#8217; most ambitious project to date, as\u00a0one of the largest choreographed ballet photoshoots ever attempted, involving 60 dancers and a 10-person crew during a single eight-hour long session of continuous shooting. For the shoot, a\u00a0red carpet the size of a football field was laid across a warehouse floor, with a large light bounce suspended above to create even, diffused lighting throughout the space. Then, a custom crane rig was built for the camera to capture the moments from directly above.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It reminded me that ballet, while celebrated for its perfection, is also deeply human.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The photoshoot was choreographed by Ian Schwaner, who\u00a0crafted\u00a0the movements of the dancers in sequences that fused classical discipline with graphic design. The cast includes some of the most skilled ballerinas in the country, with dancers from New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet School and Ballet East. &#8220;The result is not just a study of dance, but a choreography of form, precision and pattern seen from a perspective rarely experienced,&#8221; Walls said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"e1d0f7ab-3728-d4bb-1764-e4c68b2ea847\" class=\"photo lazy inline\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"lazy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/1757540418_731_image.webp.webp\" alt=\"Ballerinas formed into a right angle with one ballerina centered \" data-caption=\"\" data-credit=\"Photograph: Courtesy of PASS\u00c9\" data-width-class=\"\" data-image-id=\"106317885\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nPhotograph: Courtesy of PASS\u00c9&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Everyone who visits the exhibit\u00a0will also receive a handwritten\u00a0postcard from one of the featured ballerinas, printed with images from the show\u2014serving\u00a0as a lasting\u00a0memento and a personal connection to the art itself.
