{"id":216677,"date":"2025-09-10T22:59:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-10T22:59:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/216677\/"},"modified":"2025-09-10T22:59:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-10T22:59:14","slug":"nyc-college-professor-58-found-dead-with-bruising-to-neck-inside-apartment-sources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/216677\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC college professor, 58, found dead with bruising to neck inside apartment: sources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A graphic designer who taught at two Big Apple colleges was found dead with bruising to her neck inside her apartment about a block from Brooklyn\u2019s Greenwood Cemetery Tuesday \u2013 and investigators are probing her death as suspicious, cops and sources said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Claudia Brandenburg, 58, was lying in bed unconscious and unresponsive inside her co-op apartment on Prospect Park West near 17th Street when her husband found her and called 911 around 7:45 a.m., authorities and sources said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Brandenburg \u2014 a part-time assistant professor at the New School\u2019s Parsons School for Design since 2002, and an adjunct professor at NYU Steinhardt School of Art and Art Professions since 2015, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/claudia-brandenburg-65988431\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to her LinkedIn page <\/a>\u2014 was pronounced dead by first responders, police said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.61006289;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37074598\" width=\"950\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/45-m-yesterday-according-authorities-111097291.jpg\" alt=\"Pictured: 280 Prospect Park West\" class=\"wp-image-37074598\"  \/>Claudia Brandenburg, 58, was found dead in bed inside her Prospect Park West apartment, with \u201cmarkings\u201d on her neck, cops and sources said.  Google Maps<\/p>\n<p>Brandenburg had \u201cmarkings\u201d on her neck and bloodshot eyes, leading investigators down the road of potential foul play, the sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Her official cause of death will be determined by the city medical examiner\u2019s office, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was loved by her students and colleague,\u201d said Erin Johnson, undergraduate director of Studio Art at Steinhardt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe brought warmth, rigor, and excitement to the possibilities of the relationship between design and fine art. She was a true inspiration to her students,\u201d Johnson said of Bradenburg. \u201cShe\u2019s irreplaceable and will be lovingly remembered by every student who had the opportunity to work with her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A neighbor told The Post that residents of the four-story building on the mixed residential and commercial block were puzzled by the news of Brandenburg\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what really happened,\u201d said the neighbor, who did not want to be identified and described Brandenburg as a \u201cvery nice lady.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was a force of nature. She was the president of our co-op.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was out when the cops came,\u201d the resident said. \u201cWhen I came back, they were knocking on everyone\u2019s door.
