A man in Sarasota<\/strong>, Florida set a new weight lifting world record<\/strong> at the Kor Gym here in town in honor of the gym\u2019s 1-year anniversary. He smashed the previous world record set in Russia in 2021 for the Most Weight Lifted (Dumbbell Rows, One Arm) in 60 seconds.<\/p>\n

According to Sarasota local Jonathan Simos, the plan was initially to pursue a Guinness World Record for the \u2018furthest distance on monkey bars in 60 seconds\u2019 with 100-pounds weighted on his back. But as the date for the record attempt got nearer, he wasn\u2019t prepared so they pivoted.<\/p>\n

The pivot took him to one-arm Dumbbell Rows and the most weight lifted in 60 seconds. For those in the weight lifting<\/a> world, this really hits home.<\/p>\n

Imagine setting out to break a Guinness World Record in weight lifting, which to be fair isn\u2019t an IWF (International Weight Lifting) discipline, but something that still requires you to accomplish a feat nobody has in their lives. And then you are able to pivot from whatever record you were chasing to another one in a matter of weeks, and pull off something nobody has ever done before.<\/p>\n

Weightlifting goals are truly long-term goals. You don\u2019t see overnight results. But he was able to get it together and pull this off:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The previous Guinness World Record was set by Russian lifter Sergey Skolskiy<\/a> in St. Petersburg, Russia back in December 2021. For that \u2018Most weight lifted by dumbbell rows in one minute (one arm),\u2019 Sergey Skolskiy lifted 2184 kilogram(s) in 60 seconds, or 4814.90 pounds.<\/p>\n

At the 1-year anniversary of The K\u00f4R Sarasota Gym<\/a> Cold Plunge Sauna here in Sarasota<\/a>, Florida where I was born and raised\u2026 I used go to Boy Scouts meetings in this same neighborhood as a kid, Jonathan Simos broke the record with 58 reps in 60 seconds using a 90-pound dumbbell.<\/p>\n

His record-breaking total was 5,231.6 pounds and he smashed the previous \u2018Most weight lifted by dumbbell rows in one minute (one arm)\u2019 Guinness World Record by over 400 pounds in 60 seconds. That is a massive leap forward.<\/p>\n

According to Sarasota Magazine, Jonathan Simos is a hurricane shutter installer during the daytime and works on building his personal brand Neuxist during his free time. His athletics background is in gymnastics which would explain at least some of the insane muscle power he demonstrated here.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d never heard of The Kor Sarasota<\/a> Gym until this attempt. So it evidently worked to grab attention.<\/p>\n

And now I\u2019m half-considering filling out the application to join as I\u2019m looking for a new challenge in the gym, I just wish it was a little bit closer to my house. But working out with guys smashing Guinness World Records would certainly help hit that next gear, right?<\/p>\n
