The Padres need a right-handed bat to at least cycle in regularly as a DH.<\/p>\n
Perhaps it\u2019s time for Luis Campusano<\/strong> to get a real look.<\/p>\n The 26-year-old catcher has homered in three of his last four games, taking his season total to 13 in 46 games at Triple-A El Paso. He went 0-for-3 in 10-7 win<\/a> and drove in three runs on two hits, including a homer, in a 11-5 loss<\/a> in seven innings.<\/p>\n Campusano is hitting .321\/.436\/.636 with 43 RBIs.<\/p>\n He was 0-for-18 with six walks and nine strikeouts in nine games across two stints as a DH. The playing time was especially sporadic his last time in the majors as Gavin Sheets<\/strong>, Luis Arraez<\/strong> and Xander Bogaerts<\/strong> nursed various ailments and the Padres used the DH to give their regulars days off their feet.<\/p>\n The Padres also remained committed to using Elias D\u00edaz<\/strong> (.618 OPS) and Mart\u00edn Maldonado<\/strong> (.552 OPS) behind the plate instead of using the defensively challenged Campusano at the position.<\/p>\n Campusano also worked out at first base in the majors but has not played a game yet there this year.<\/p>\n Knuckleballer Matt Waldron<\/strong> was scheduled to start Thursday, but that game was rained out and he did not pitch in either game Friday, which puts him in play to make a start for the Padres in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n Left-hander Wes Benjamin<\/strong> (5.76 ERA) allowed four runs in 4\u2153 innings in Game 1.<\/p>\n Right-hander Kevin Kopps<\/strong> (3-2, 4.08 ERA) allowed four runs \u2014 one earned \u2014 in two-thirds of an inning as an opener in Game 2.<\/p>\n El Paso is 41-38.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Friday\u2019s scoreboard<\/p>\n DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (41-32)<\/strong><\/p>\n Missions 6, Midland 2:<\/a> RHP Enmanuel Pinales<\/strong> (4-3, 6.21 ERA) struck out five over 5\u2153 scoreless innings in the continuation of a suspended game.
