She said their connection began through her husband, who was on a hunting board looking for a young writer to help with a book. She said Kirk had recently started his conservative youth organization, Turning Point USA, out of his parents\u2019 garage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI feel like he\u2019s made it cool to be conservative for youth,\u201d Ingersoll said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">She invited Kirk to Houston to speak to student groups as he was getting started. She fondly recalled a humorous moment when Kirk gave one of his mentees $20 with the advice to \u201cget some dark socks\u2026 (to wear with pants) people need to take you seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">When asked if she imagined Kirk\u2019s success, Ingersoll said, \u201cI knew that he\u2019d be president someday.
