(Khushboo Rathore) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Oregon Employment Department economist Gail Krumenauer has detailed the range of manufacturing sectors that suffered job losses in the year ended July 30, 2025, everything from construction (down 900) to retail businesses (down 3,900) to Oregon\u2019s large, well-known frozen fruits and vegetables processing\u2014potatos, berries, green beans\u2014down 1,000 jobs. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">On the flip side, Krumenauer said, thousands of jobs have been added in private health care and social assistance. But when growth comes only in such specialized sectors, it creates a \u201cweaker position for the entire labor market,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Workers losing jobs in manufacturing or wholesale trade have difficulty getting jobs in specialized fields\u2014leading to higher unemployment across the state, Krumenauer said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re not seeing months and months of sustained job losses happening in the U.S. yet,\u201d she added, \u201cbut it is a growing concern to see a few months of job losses in a row happen in Oregon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Willamette Week\u2019s reporting has concrete impacts that change laws, force action from civic leaders, and drive compromised politicians from public office. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><strong>Help us dig deeper.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"This story was produced by the Oregon Journalism Project, a nonprofit newsroom covering the state.
