This year I have come out as a transgender woman, and I have changed my name to Carol Durney,\u201d she continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Conservative contempt for trans people is nothing new, but how would Republicans react to one of their own coming out as trans?<\/p>\n<p>At that first meeting, not well.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>People referred to her as an \u201cabomination\u201d and called on her to resign. But at a board meeting this Tuesday, the tone changed. The decision came with a \u201cmix of emotions,\u201d she wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This is a turbulent time for the county. It\u2019s facing<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2025\/06\/20\/how-gops-big-beautiful-bill-could-blow-a-286m-hole-in-san-diego-countys-budget\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\"> federal cuts<\/a> that will impact services and has already endured other major departures. The county\u2019s top attorney<a href=\"https:\/\/voiceofsandiego.org\/2025\/07\/31\/abruptly-retired-county-lawyer-to-get-big-payout\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> abruptly retired in July<\/a> and its behavioral health director caught even insiders off guard with his<a href=\"https:\/\/voiceofsandiego.org\/2025\/03\/18\/countys-top-behavioral-health-official-resigns\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> resignation<\/a>. I heard people say things like, \u2018I can\u2019t believe this is happening,\u2019 and \u2018It will all be over soon.\u2019 One person said it felt like they were mourning,\u201d Layne writes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/voiceofsandiego.org\/2025\/09\/10\/north-county-report-inside-luke-shaffers-first-day-in-court\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Read the full North County Report here.\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>About Those Robots at City Council<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The City Clerk\u2019s Office confirmed on Wednesday that AI bots have not breached Council\u2019s online comments after a series of strange audios made their way to meetings this week.<\/p>\n<p>City Clerk Diana Fuentes said in a statement that the city\u2019s system, ZoomGov, does not allow it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt appears that an individual chose to play a pre-recorded audio clip once they were recognized to speak,\u201d she said. \u201cWe are monitoring this matter and will continue to ensure public participation in City Council meetings is conducted in line with our established rules of order.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>An Insane Bond Deal Exposed\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Back in 2012, Voice of San Diego published one of its all-time bangers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Poway Unified School District had borrowed $105 million for construction projects. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kpbs.org\/news\/racial-justice-social-equity\/2025\/09\/09\/san-diego-to-pay-875k-to-man-shot-with-police-bean-bag-rounds-and-bitten-by-k-9\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">payout is the result of an incident last year<\/a>, where officers shot beanbag rounds at a man and released K-9 units on him, after he had surrendered. (KPBS)<\/li>\n<li>A residential care <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsandiego.com\/news\/local\/residential-care-facilitys-malnourished-residents-had-bedsores-ca-atty-general\/3898923\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">facility in Mira Mesa is facing elder abuse charges<\/a>. California\u2019s Attorney General\u2019s Office brought the charges forward earlier this week, alleging that residents suffered from bedsores and malnourishment because the facility was understaffed. (NBC 7)<\/li>\n<li>Potholes are one of the greatest obstacles San Diegans face on a daily basis. The City of San Diego is trying to do something about it, recently adding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbs8.com\/article\/traffic\/san-diego-rolls-out-new-electric-patch-trucks-to-tackle-potholes\/509-d9dcb3a8-391f-4af8-b8ea-861131dde794\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">four new trucks to a fleet dedicated to smoothing city streets<\/a>.
