{"id":218163,"date":"2025-09-11T12:39:20","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T12:39:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/218163\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T12:39:20","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T12:39:20","slug":"man-critically-injured-after-self-immolation-outside-fort-worth-walmart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/218163\/","title":{"rendered":"Man Critically Injured After Self-Immolation Outside Fort Worth Walmart"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man is allegedly in critical condition after <strong>setting himself on fire<\/strong> outside a Walmart in Fort Worth on Tuesday, leaving bystanders traumatized.<\/p>\n<p>Fort Worth Fire Department dispatched a medical response helicopter to the Walmart located at 8520 Beach Street, after receiving reports of a burn victim, according to traffic first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/story.php?story_fbid=1177747367711660&amp;id=100064292245541&amp;mibextid=wwXIfr&amp;rdid=c3CbidFy1hWh32ru#\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> by DFW Scanner on Facebook. Officials also said the incident appeared to be related to a <strong>\u201cpsychiatric emergency.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Several witnesses on the scene shared disturbing first-hand accounts on social media, with many claiming they are still shaken up from the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe lit himself on fire in front of me right as I was getting ready to pull out of the parking lot,\u201d Kadarius Hoye wrote in a Facebook comment. \u201cHe came out the door and drenched himself in lighter fluid and proceeded to light himself on fire. Him and another young lady were arguing moments before he did it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Others described the trauma of witnessing the act unfold in front of families and children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was there. Inside the store. The burning smell will never leave my mind,\u201d said Rylie Capps. \u201cIt was traumatizing to witness and see all his melted clothes\u2026 Prayers to the man and his family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another shopper, Gurmukh Singh, recalled calling 911 after seeing the man engulfed in flames: \u201cIt was so disturbing. It\u2019s just so sad there were kids in the store watching that horrible scene.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This tragic case follows a series of self-immolation incidents across the country in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasexpress.com\/national\/unraveling-complexities-of-self-immolation-incidents-this-year\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Dallas Express<\/a> previously reported, high-profile cases in 2024, including Airman Aaron Bushnell\u2019s protest outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C., and activist Max Azzarello\u2019s fatal fire outside a Manhattan courthouse, show some of the extreme psychological and social pressures that can drive people to such violent acts of self-harm.<\/p>\n<p>Experts caution that self-immolation often comes from a <strong>complex combination of despair, trauma, and untreated mental illness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSelf-immolation can be associated with severe psychological distress, very often surfacing in the form of extreme depression, trauma, and feelings of helplessness,\u201d clinical counselor Niloufar Esmaeilpour previously told DX.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy niece was there, she was on the phone with 911. They had her follow him inside, blazing on fire, and he begged them to help him. How horrible, she\u2019s so traumatized. She\u2019ll never get that picture out of her mind.
