{"id":218659,"date":"2025-09-11T17:01:15","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T17:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/218659\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T17:01:15","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T17:01:15","slug":"sloane-stephens-provides-fitness-update-after-losing-her-first-match-in-seven-months-at-the-guadalajara-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/218659\/","title":{"rendered":"Sloane Stephens provides fitness update after losing her first match in seven months at the Guadalajara Open"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Sloane Stephens did not have the return to the match court that she wanted after playing her first match since February.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/sloane-stephens-explains-why-she-asked-herself-is-she-should-retire-after-winning-the-us-open-in-2017\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stephens, who is a former US Open champion<\/a>, has not competed since February after suffering a foot injury.<\/p>\n<p>The American had not been finding much form on the match court, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/american-wta-star-has-just-suffered-her-10th-defeat-in-a-row-and-has-fallen-to-115th-in-the-world-rankings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stephens losing 10 consecutive matches<\/a> before the Guadalajara Open.<\/p>\n<p>After going through a lengthy injury layoff, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/former-us-open-champion-has-returned-to-the-wta-tour-and-played-her-first-match-for-seven-months\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stephens returned to tennis<\/a> ranked outside the top 1000 hoping to change that.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-2234090629-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Sloane Stephens of the USA plays a forehand against Lucrezia Stefanini of Italy during day 3 of the WTA 500 Guadalajara Open Akron at Mouratoglou Tennis Center.\" class=\"wp-image-128959\" \/>Photo by Simon Barber\/Getty ImagesSloane Stephens posts positive update after Guadalajara Open loss<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/sloane-stephens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stephens<\/a> has previously won a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WTA<\/a> title in Guadalajara before, where she played qualifier Lucrezia Stefanini in the first round.<\/p>\n<p>Their match actually began on Tuesday, with Stephens dropping the first set, before going on to lead the second 5-3 before rain interrupted play.<\/p>\n<p>When returning to court the following day, Stephens was able to take that second set, but she won only one more game from that point on.<\/p>\n<p>After Stephens was beaten by Stefanini, 6-4 4-6 6-1, she wrote a message on her Instagram story reflecting on her comeback and providing an update on how her foot was feeling.<\/p>\n<p>Stephens wrote, \u201cNot the dream start, but I\u2019ll take it: pain-free, foot intact, and still plenty in the tank. Onward (star emojis).
